Loud screeching noise; weird

My motor has started making a very loud squealing noise as soon as the piston begins to move. It goes away once the motor is up to speed and is less noticeable but still there once it warms up completely. My clutch is not slipping or rubbing the cover. It sounds no different with the cover off, or with the clutch engaged or disengaged, it's only related to motor speed. It's at its loudest when the motor is being turned by the bike just before it fires up. Help!
 
Hve you lubricated the gears on the right side of the engine? It only takes a dap of a good quality bearing grease. Don't go overboard or the grease will find its way onto the clutch friction surfaces.

I was advised by the builder to keep those gears lubed. I'm not describing the racket it's making very well but it's not a constant noise like a gear grinding; it pulses with the engine.

I did notice that the clutch pucks are pretty shiny on the inside surface, but the clutch still works fairly well. The squeaking/squealing is loudest at low engine speed whether the clutch is in or out.
 
How about greasing the clutch and ball for the cable driven clutch side on the left side of the motor. Those will make all kinds of weird noises when they are dry.
 
it's probably the clutch actuator pin behind the chain cover mine did that till i took it apart and greased it
 
i was about to post the same thing. mine made a heck of a racket until i greased that ball. but only when rolling with the clutch pulled in, not all the time.

here's a tip to get that ball out. none of mine seem to just roll out when the bike's tilted, so i stick a strong magnet onto a screwdriver, and the ball sticks to the screwdriver so you can pull it out.
 
I greased that actuator too while I had the bike apart for paint, thanks to lurking on this forum. Didn't pull the ball out though, just shot a dab of dry teflon in the hole.
 
Well, it seems like you probably have demons in your engine that are unleashing the screams of the damned. Not really though, I know what you mean by screeching I think, I have a two stroke that screeches as the piston goes up and down in the cylinder. This engine is not hooked up to anything currently and screeches when I turn the shaft. I suspect for my engine it is a matter of not being lubricated because it is not running. Yours is running, but you may not be getting enough lubrication. What is the ration you are running and what kind of oil are you using? Good luck and I hope you can figure it out :) You may want to take your exhaust off and your spark plug and shine a light through the plug hole when your piston is all the way down. You might have scuffing and gouging.
 
thanks for posting what you found the proplem to be, to many people never do that which leaves the thread as no help to others who have similar problems.
 
Sure; I'm a little embarrased that it took me this long to figure it out but it really sounded like a bearing or someything. I was tinkering with it in my back yard and took it for a quick spin aound the block wearing shorts, and right away I felt the hot air on my leg.

It's running like a champ now, and the power's back too.
