just got pulled over by the fuzz. how many watts is a 50cc

its measured at the back wheel on a dyno.. in terms of horsepower the dyno should read a maximum of 1/4 hp (I can already hear you guys laughing in the States!)
 
Has anyone in the US ND or MN been pulled over and harrassed. wonder about the watts law here.
any input.
 
1 hp = 745 watts
200 watts goes into 745 watts 3.7 times
then 200 watts is about 1/4 of a hp ?
in perspective 1/3 hp electric motors are used in washing machines
3.725 of 1 hp = 1/3.725 = 0.2684 hp

What about fitting an adjustable restricted throttle like you can get for kiddies bikes? Not perfect, but a way around it. Also, restrict the exhaust diameter as well.
 
I put moms gas washing machine motor on a bike and it would do 20 mph, about 5 mph more than I wanted to go. A little fear on something with no shocks and rubber brakes is a good thing.
 
Many motorised bicycles available online list manufacturers' specifications as 80cc engine power output 3,500 watts, 70cc engine power output 2500 watts, 50cc engine power output 1600 watts. Some 50cc are only 1200 watts. That's at the motor, not at the wheel.
By the time you put it through a chain onto a sprocket, tighten the chain too much, splash a bit too much oil in your 2-stroke mix, and remember that on a 2-stroke the HP (watts, power, same thing) increases with revs up through the power band, 200 at the wheel at low speeds is actually about right for a 50cc. Flat out, you will have more power and will exceed 200w. But pushing up a hill at 15km/h - not likely.
If you get pulled over, tell them it's been governed and you bought it specially from a guy on gumtree who gets them from China then governs them down to under 200w. Smile. Don't be drunk or speeding. You'll get 'right.
