How do I change my fuel tank without fuel spilling everywhere when I take off the fuel line/ petcock, even if I turn of the flow of fuel on the petcock, there will still be fuel in the line running into the carb, how do I go about doing this?
If it's the bolt on peanut tank, you can undo the bolts and tilt it sideways to drain it out the filler hole to get most of the fuel out and some out of the line by lowering the tank below the carb. You can then raise the tank and cut the fuel line above where the residual fuel is.
I turn off petcock, undo fuel line at petcock, put a long piece of hose from petcock to a jug, turn on petcock until tank is empty - not really as hard as pouring p*ss out of a boot
To replace just the petcock, you can tighten down the gas cap and lay the bike on its left side, and replace the petcock only just like that. If your gas cap has good rubber and is not vented, this should work (did it today to clean petcock with full tank).
