Highwaystar's Whizzer

What a great day to check the mail. Mason Man sent me the goodies needed to open my exhaust up a bit more, and I got a new R/C glider kit to build up. Sometimes the hobby gods smile upon me!

Now I feel like I have something to get done...

Thats Good!
McBob is doing some head work on his vintage whizzer, i'm working on some wc-1 heads right now. not sure what jb or racie are doing.
j3000 is finding a grinding sound from his ne5.
keep us posted of your progress.

I'm just tinkering on my bikes & a customer's 2 vintage Whizzers. I'm waiting on LED bulbs for 2 vintage Whizzers.

Wow, what a difference! My bike is as happy as neutered dog that got a new set of wah-wahs!

The mod was simple and straight forward. It took me about a half an hour from start to test ride. The sound is much better, as is the throttle response. What can I say? Life is good!

Huge thanks to Ray!

I have been (and still am) giving my two youngest daughters rides up and down our lane all day. Life, it do be good sometimes!

BTW- I have had two neighbors ask "watcha do to it?...it sounds much better." Gotta love it!

After a fun weekend of riding, my bike has developed a slip. It is not very noticeable at take off. The bike still pulls out well. But unless I roll into the throttle very gently, the revs go up and nothing really happens.

I have not changed my belts out yet, but it is in the plans. This bike sat for quite some time before I got it, so there are a few things that need to be updated.

I have read a few threads on adjusting the tension. However, I am not seeing anything that deals with the set up I have. I may just pick up a couple belts and jump into it. I may not know what's going on at the moment, but by the time I am done, I will!LOL

The belts are still in decent condition. I removed the cover. After moving the bike around with the clutch fully engaged, it is obviously the front belt. It just has too much slack. So, sometime today I will try to move the motor forward a tad and see if the helps.

I moved the engine forward. It had come back a pretty good bit. Things are much better now. Between the belt being tighter and the new baffle, it has a very solid feel and sound. I still have a tiny bit of slippage when doing around 35 and gassing it hard, but nothing like before. I think a slightly stronger spring on my clutch engagement mechanism would do the trick. For now though it is very rideable. Besides do I really need to be giving hard throttle when going over 35mph? I really don't....but it is fun!

The gentleman that purchased my China Girl Felt 1903 build stopped by and took it for a spin. He was amazed at the difference in the two. The 1903 pretty much tops out at 37mph, the Whizzer on the other hand can easily cruise between 35-40mph, it will do over 50mph, but I have only done that once for a short time.

I can see him owning a Whizzer before the end of Summer!

I feel I got lucky when I found this bike. Everyday I learn a bit more about it's "personality". Whomever did the engine on it did a nice job. Everything works so well together.

I had planned on building another kit motor bike (mountain bike with SBP shifter), but the more time I spend with the Whizzer, the more I think maybe another Whizzer project is what I should do. I may start trying to locate a vintage project/basket case.

A couple days ago, our van decided it no longer needed a harmonic balancer, so it kicked it off of the engine. I do not own an air compressor with enough wah-wahs to break the nut on the crank loose, so we are without a van for a few days. It is a good thing we have a nice little bike collection!

Over the last few days, the Whizzer has went from being a toy to being our only means of transportation. I have been running the snot out of it doing errands. I have even been thinking of errands to run even if we don't need anything. I have put quite a few miles on it this week, and it just delivers. It is a truly awesome machine.

I need to find a vintage project. I need another!

Being able to ride a Whizzer everyday, and just enjoy it, What more can a guy ask for.Yes!
Sorry to hear about your harmonic balance coming apart. if the crank rotates clockwise you can put your 1/2" socket and ratchet along the frame, crank the motor once, that should break the bolt loose.

I have done that before with the end result being a broken Snap-On breaker bar. My Snap-On guy was not happy with me. I am taking to a friends place with a nice workshop.

My wife has taken to riding my Felt Bandit chopper to work. Even though we had a set back, having the bikes we have sure made this ordeal almost fun!
