Have to peddle real fast to get it to fire....

Ht 66, 39 t sprocket..7 speed bike...

For some reason I starting yesterday I now have to peddle in 3rd gear hard to get it to fire... Usually a brisk first gear and im off.....

I get no fire at slow starting speeds...

Sounds like a magneto ????? If cdi problem usually they work or dont....???

Any help??

If it starts, the electronics are good.
Raise the choke lever up about 3/4 of the way to make it start easy & fast.

Choke soesnt seem to have any effect.... I have 1500 miles on this engine in warm and colder conditions and havent had this prob before..... Its been wet here lately, could moisture be effecting my plug wire screw in on the cdi??

I changed plug wires and no difference...

I'll fart around w/ it tomorrow and see what I come up with......

Try a new spark plug. If that is not easy ATM try closing the spark plug gap just a teeny bit.

Good point, BigBlue!

borntofli, remove the mag cover and be very sure that there is no water inside there.
Most engines won't tolerate even a bit of moisture in there. They are cheap and finicky.
It is highly recommended that folks seal up the mag to prevent any water from getting in there. You need to use RTV silicone to seal where the wires exit the front of the engine, both where the wires exit the wire sheath and where the retaining nut fits into the case.
I recommend using Hylomar to seal the cover gasket.

I'd open the cover and check your magneto coil if you left it in the rain or drove it in the rain regardless if you done it in the past with no problems.

Turned out to be a simple problem...... New bp6hs plug and off to the races.... Fires right up at slow speeds.....

Did check out the mag and it was dry and clean.........

What did you set the plug gap at? Try .020 to .024.
