First build: A few questions.

I want to build my son a motor bike. I found this used Schwinn 26 Sidewinder. I see two potential problems: 1) differing sized frame bars i.e. tapered bars. 2) twist gear shifts (won’t this interfere with the throttle?

I plan on 80cc two stroke engine.

Thoughts or comments about these and other potential issues.

I dont really understand the frame question. Maybe you can post a pic. I like beach cruiser frames for newbies. The steering is relatively slow and the ride is smooth.
-Many options for shifters. You can use stem shifters from an old road bike. You can use also use a thumb shifter for a throttle. You can mount a grip shifter to the top tube or seat post. That is part of the fun of building a motor bike.

I had attached a picture. The tube going from the crank up to the handle bar area is tapered. It gets larger as it goes forward.

The biggest issue it 'might' have is how many spokes the rear wheel has.... it needs to have 36 spokes for the new sprocket to easily bolt onto the wheel.

If it has 36 spokes?, the bike should be fine.

You will need a 'U' bolt front motor mount to fit that frame.
You can easily delete the twist grip shifter for the front derailer (the bike will still have the 7-rear speeds)
You might have to change the 7-speed twist shifter to the left side of the handlebars.
Some heavy two-sided tape will help keep the gas tank on that square top tube.
