decrease in mpg after switching oils

I've noticed on both of my bikes the gas mileage dropping considerably after break in from switching to oils from a conventional mixed 32:1 to Amsoil Saber mixed at 80:1. The carburetor has been jetted properly for both mixes but the gas mileage is now approximately half of what it was previously getting.

Has anyone experienced differences in gas mileage from switching brands of oils or mixing ratios?
 
hard to believe that a change in fuel could make that much diff - I'd be looking for some other reason

when you say 'after break in', do you mean the full 300 to 400 miles?
 
If you're jetted properly for the 80:1 mix your fuel/air mix would have to be leaner meaning better MPG, not worse. I agree with crassius. Something is amiss here. A 50% drop in mpg isn't normal. How are you calculating that?

I run Opti2 @ 100:1 and unless Im cruising for several miles at a time at 40+ mph on my bikes my fuel consumption is what I would consider to be low or normal.

I also have to question how it is you could be correctly tuned and putting 50% more fuel through that engine.

note: some synthetic oils have been known to seep past old style gaskets - are petcock & fuel line dry?
