Decal Removal- best results

I just purchased a mountain bike and its loaded with decals, looks like a ridiculous rolling billboard. But i LOVE the paintjob underneath.

Ive removed decals before, from a set of forks, but it left a gluey residue that i couldnt get rid of. After peeling and using a heat gun, what is the best way to get rid of the leftover residue if you dont want to damage the paint?

WD40 works pretty good. let it soak in for a minute then rub it off. probably take a few times to get all the goo off.

WD works on most stuff. If it doesn't, 3-M makes a product called 'Adhesive Remover' available at most hardware stores. It will take the goo off and won't harm most paints.

As I've hadta pull off a bunch of stickers six feet long by two feet tall & more like a coupla fifteen footers (b'danged boats), I hafta agree - it's really good stuff (^)

3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08987, Aerosol

3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984, Quart

Some tips tho - like with any solvent, test it on an area you don't care about so much jus' to be sure it won't mess up yer paint. While the spray can is handy, I really prefer the non-aerosol for a coupla reasons... you get a LOT more for your money & for the stubborn sticky you can saturate a (terrycloth) rag, lay it over the gooey and let it soak for a coupla minutes, then it outa wipe right off (you'll need lots of clean rags or you'll smear it around). You'll want to do this in the cool shade as this stuff evaporates quickly & defo do it in a well ventilated area as it's very much not good for ya ;)

At your local dollar store check out some stuff called "awesome" Its yellow in color and comes in a clear spray bottle. Works excellent for sticker removal and will not harm the paint. Is an excellent cleaner/degreaser also. I buy this stuff by the gallon for my employer.

Goof Off is also advertised to remove sticker residue. It's also sold to remove paint so like BarelyAwake mentioned, I'd test it on an inconspicuous area first. I bought some to remove old, dried latex paint off bricks on my house and it took FOREVER to get the paint off so I doubt it would hurt the paint on your bike if you got the sticker residue off and then hosed it down with Windex. I myself usually use WD-40 and I also know a lot of folks who swear by Awesome Orange from the Dollar Tree, I was just offering another alternative. :)

Masking tape or scotch or PVC/electrical works well on many adhesive types, too. Just stick, unstick, repeat.

Many times I've removed the adhesive using the sticker I just removed :D

Hi…using forks to remove decals is certainly not a good idea my friend. Use the Wonder Wheel to get rid of the decals on your mountain bike without hampering the paint beneath. I too had the same problem and a friend recommended the Wonder products. Boy! The stuff works great! It is made of soft rubber which works gently on the body of the bike to remove all decals without scratching the body. You can visit their website for more information and details: http://decalstickerremover.com/

Try the Wonder Wheel! You can watch the video which tells you how to remove decals and stickers gently without scratching the surface.

Removes decals within 15 mins, scratch-free, chemical free

Good luck!

goo gone works good, but if you used enough heat there shouldnt be any residue. i always just took a can of hair spray, flame throwered the sticker still if deforms a little, and peal the whole mess off. im a little pyro.
