custom keg style fuel tank

Seeing how weak the stock tank is made me set out an alternative.
I saw some rear rack mounted keg style tanks I liked and scavenged for some material. A 7" length of 6" round pipe with plate welded for end caps and a custom cap.
Here it is all welded up, still gotta do some grinding and treat the inside and paint of course.
I calculated it to be roughly 0.6 US Gal.

I TIG welded it. Can't get as good heat penetration and cleanliness using MIG. As far as being welded by a "pro"... I am a certified welder and have been welding for 10 years.

Nice work. How will it be mounted? And I agree. TIG would be the best approach for welding up a steel tank like yours.
Good work. Show us some finished photos, please.

I'm most likely going to mount it on a rear rack behind the seat. I looked at some online, but I think I will make my own custom rack so I can set everything up nice and clean.
I have been really busy lately so I haven't had much time to work on it. When I get it finished I will definitely post some pics

Very nice! Sure beats the tin can version. I've been thinking about a copper cylindrical behind the seat tank for over a year now. I think that's long enough putting it off. This summer I'll make it for a 1934 Elgin.
Wish I could weld like you. Beautiful work...
