Cree lights get hot?

I'm hoping to retro fit a 2000 lumens (approx) cree light into a vintage headlight. Can somebody advise how hot they get? I expect to vent the light somehow but still curious if I'm attempting the impossible. I have not bought a cree light yet so have no idea.

thanks

Your head lamp should get warm, not hot. The reason it gets warm is that the actual led uses the aluminum case as a heat sink. If you vent it all will be well.

Thanks for the reply, Kletus. I'm going for it. I have to if I want to ride past four pm when the sun sets up here at this time of year.

If you drive the led to hard it will get hot . Use heatsink like mentioned and don't push the led to the max and it will last and give good light.

Thanks, MM, I will take that advice. I will only be riding in the city with lit streets so I don't need to light up the road. I just need to be seen. I'm thinking about making a copy of my bmw sport fairing and mounting the light with plenty of air around it.
