Can you put an engine on a mountain bike?

alot of them seem to be coaster brakes etc... but i have a diamondback outlook in the garage (mountain bike lots of gears and regular brakes not disc) is there anything id be screwing myself on or can i buy an engine and go to town on it? thank you very much ive been reading a ton and cant get this answered.

Most older mountain bikes are the easiest.

If a Harbor Freight 79cc motor can be set-up on an old Trek 800, I believe the answer is YES to your question. Even easier installing a 2-stroke on one.
