Has anybody ever considered enhancing their mb with browns gas?

This summer I'll definetly get a self charging electrical system figured out and after I got electricity I will probably next summer begin experimenting with browns gas.

For those of you who don't know what brown's gas is it is 2 parts hydrogen 1 part oxygen.

You get it when you run an electric current through water and break dowm the structure of the water. Basically seperating the hydrogen from the oxygen. It is quite simple.

Hopefully one day the mb will run on browns gas alone. It has been done to cars before so a mb should be easy.

I'll be plenty careful

I've already blown the valve cover on my focus before.
It was a hole about 12 inches long and 3 inches wide.
Fortunately is is a Ford and only needed a valve cover.
 
I think browns gas is also very corrosive with aluminum. So you engine life may be shortened dramatically. But like Wheelbender said, be careful........................
 
you have to make your browns gas without the help of lye because of extreme alluminum corrosion. You need a lot of current to make it without lye. Pure hydrogen doesnt corrode aluminum.
 
I've always wondered if those brown's gas boosters work or not. I've seen pretty good arguments both ways. An MB would be great to test on because it has a such a simple engine.

I made a small generator out of flattened spoons once. It worked well but leaked alot...
 
A friend of mine ran what he called a "hydrogen can" in his car for a while. Basically it was a jar of water with a long coil of stainless steel wire in it. He ran 12v through the wire straight off of the alternator and piped the gas that it made into the PCV valve. He claims that he gets about 10 mpg extra gas mileage.

...so with his old POS car that puts him at about 11 miles per gallon total, LOL. ;)

Well.... uhhhh.....

The general name for the gas mix produced by electrolytically separating water is oxyhydrogen. The process was discovered by William Nicholson in 1800. Lots of inventors since then have claimed efficiency breakthroughs in the separation process. All of those claims have turned out to be false, or based on using various chemical accelerators in the source water.

Oxyhydrogen won't work as a motor fuel the way you expect, because it contracts when it burns. It does not expand, like nearly every other kind of chemical combustion does. The first "Brown" to get involved with oxyhydrogen was Samuel Brown in 1825, who built a vacuum engine.

A modern "combustion" engine is an expansion engine, and works on the principal that gasoline will expand when it burns, and that expansion during the power stroke is used to push the piston DOWN. A vacuum engine works exactly the other way--by drawing the oxyhydrogen into the cylinder with the piston at bottom-dead-center, closing the valves, and then igniting the mixture--and the fuel's contraction pulls the piston upwards.

Probably not using good laboratory procedures when conducting their experiment. If your modern car's engine produces power on the downstroke, what good will adding a contracting fuel do for it? Not a lot, to my thinking.

Oxyhydrogen is a lot more interesting as a welding method than as a motor fuel.
It's not efficient for welding most things, but is very good at a few things that nothing else can do. The separators tend to use a lot of power however--several times as much as a roughly-equivalent MIG or stick welder of the same heating capacity.

run your car on water is a giant hoax. to separate the hydrogen from water takes way more energy than it makes, other wise the whole world would be running on it.
there are browns gas generators used in jewelry making for small gas torch's, and there only used because the gas is super clean and dosen't contaminate the rare metals used in jewerly making. you would need a small power plant to make enough energy to separate enough hydrogen to run your motor bike.

In the case of my friend with the "hydrogen can", you're probably right. ;)
