How many of you have broke a the rear wheel axle in half....This is the second time for me.....I have a heavy duty 12 gauge wheel rim and I broke another one.....Man now I have to go buy another rim or can I just buy the axle?

seriously, what the heck are you guys doing to break axles? i've had hundreds of bikes in my life, used to beat the heII out of bmx bikes, i've jumped 70 year old cruisers offa curbs and speedbumps, now i got motors...

where are they breaking? is there any wear areas there? like, did it break where the axle contacts the frame and it was rubbing?

are your cones too tight? too loose?

or do they just make really crappy axles these days?

I concur with Baird... you're doing something wrong! There must be something inside the hub that isn't right or stripped or something...

I broke my rear axle last week. I also had a frame failure at the same time. It snapped right in the middle. I am not sure if the frame broke first and tweaked the wheel or the axle broke first. It was a pretty old Murray cantilever frame and looking back I find it may not have been a good choice.

I broke an axel.
My chain was way over tight when it happend.
Puts a nasty load on the axel.

The skewer was the only thing keeping my wheel together.

Scary

Hi, my rear axle also broke. The delema is only one side comes out. The sprocket side just spins. Any ideas?

There's likely another nut in there, if you don't have a socket that will fit a flat head screw driver will often hold the nut enough to unthread it.
