bet replacement tires for those aint cheap. granted they probably last a good while, but still gotta make sure you have money to replace them when they actually NEED replacing.

That's a neat bike! I have a little "fat bike" a Razor MX650 modified, more of a monkey bike but it has the grip to climb steep loose stuff. Went muddin today lol! The front tire is skinny, but I think you could put a rear on the front and make a comedic looking little fatbike if you were having problems with it sinking.

What's that tire size? Could you put these on a regular frame with just enough fork and stay clearances?

No way. Those meats are like 3 1/2 inches wide or more. I'm not even sure it wouldn't need a jackshaft...

Tire wear? Really? Tell me you don't like that look....

I like the look, but when it comes to bikes, I usually tend to take the most practical approach. The bike I'm currently driving for example, looks the way I want it to, but every single part thats on it serves its purpose and I wouldn't care too much if it didnt look all that great. I've spent two years customizing it for my use, not for looks. I'm getting ready to build a 98cc 4 stroke, and all the parts I'm gathering have a function. While they are parts that will give my bike a certain style and unique look, that is not the purpose at all. Sorry, but yeah, the first thing I noticed was how expensive those tires would be to replace, because thats propbably the most practical thing to notice about these bikes. It doesnt necessarily make it a bad choice to motorize though, I bet those fat tires handle excellently and make for a very smooth ride. And looks and style dont hurt anything, they just arent my primary motivation.

I've been looking at the Sun AT spiders for a while now; thinking a dual drive smart pie electric setup would be neat.

I think you would have to use a shift kit, but also do some major frame mods so you could put an engine and shift kit on it. There is no room behind the seat tube for where I believe the shift kit goes and the frame looks to be cramped to put an engine in there.

Get one with some OXygen tanks, the rider can reach for every 50 yards or so, like the bubbas that thing looks like it was designed for-

seroiusly DROPPED in every way- might as well pedal a Harley, and put a muffler on too, just to add weight! LOL.

laff

Actually I was at a LBS the other week and they allowed me to ride a nice Sun Spider AT arround the lot (dirt with berms and banks ect ) and was shocked at how easy it road. Well... Not as easy ad my Felt Twin before the motor and other 30 lbs of stuff on it but still it wasnt NEARLY as bad as I thought it would be. Yes. Theres no room in the triangle for a motor but there IS room for a decent size battery and who knows what the hubspacing is like on that thing for electric hub motors, but Im thinking that would be the way to make one of these GO!

The bike in the photos is the Surly Pugsley. There are a few other manufacturers that also use the 4" wide Pugsley tires. They look like they weigh a ton but they are surprisingly light. I've seen at least one being ridden here in Duluth, MN in the middle of the winter, which is a condition they excel at.

You would have to drastically offset the motor or use a shift kit somehow to get around those fat tires. These bikes cost around $1650.

I have looked at Fat Bikes & really like the look of them. Side by side, they make a 'regular bike' look foolish. I think they'd be cool to motorize & pose on.

I'm hearing rumours of a Moongoose FatBike coming to big box stores under 500$...Don't know if it's true or not. I'm kinda hoping this is the next fad, like fixies, so the prices will come down to earth.

I don't think a shift kit would fit, and there's no way the drive chain would clear the tire with a standard kit motor.

Hey Forest, here's how you play the game-

You get from point A to Point B with the least amount of effort-

Don't take your eyes off of that idea-

Oh, and try not to kill yourself and other people
that's bAD!

Anything else is Sty El.....
