Ammo Can Bike Rack

I wanted to make a rack that i would be able to carry some supplys and be water prof and can be locked if need be. The rack was built useing 3/4 inch by 3/16 flat steel. I heated it to make the bends and welded in cross braceing. I used two 30 cal. ammo cans and mounted them low on the rack with 3/4 inch spacers. The alum. cover is something i added to cover the rack and act like a finder. This is the second one i have built the first was with a 50 cal. ammo can and was given to my son to use on his Electra.

Those ammo cans look cool. but i needed something larger to use for going to the store.
I use a black plastic waste paper basket on each side of rearrack and some chimney/muffler strapping and bolts. they hold 2 2-liter bottles of soda or grocerys for each one.

How much do they weigh? I used a somewhat larger electrical junction box mounted at the same height but have found that the bike is a bit wobbly in the front with them full

Triple tree down hill forks, BMX bars, fire up the Ch and get a hold!! I win my arm wrestles. I hang it all off the bars.

I finished the rack and put some paint on it. Here is the bike the way it is now.

I like that it's like a flat bed on top you can probably bungee a duffel bag on that.
Very nice and quite clean.
I think I saw those boxes at my local Army Navy store.
