Mods please forgive me as I am retarded, I think I've posted this twice but its not showing up in the forums so if you have to, please delete the previous post my apologies.

Someone mentioned this forum and I like what I'm seeing here. I'm currently slicing and dicing a schwinn OCC. It has a nice and beefy 6 hp tecumseh power sport 195 cc engine. Sorry 66cc's is not my thing although cool.

Project goals:
under 400$
CA street legal
streetable
good bottom end torque
45 mph+ (on private track)

I sent in my paperwork to the CA DMV I have to put a restrictor plate or some device that cuts the horsepower down to 2 or less and 30MPH or less for CA roads. Off CA roads or out of state I like the idea I can remove the governing device and jump up to 45 mph.

one-time CA moped registration was 19$

project "mighty-mouse" started off as a 75$ schwinn OCC single gear bike

I snagged a 6HP tecumseh and "shoddy" gokart frame for 80$
Thank you craigslist!

I just ordered a max torque 12T clutch a 72 tooth rear sprocket and misc chain hardware, that was just about 60$ with shipping
Thank you Ebay!

I snagged some scrap metal in East LA for 10$

so I'm JUST under 250$ into this project.

I need a motor-cycle'esk gas tank and a twist throttle assembly and she should be ready to test drive.

my first video

where I'm at right now:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2en9vyv.jpg

The frame was too small for the engine so I cut and re welded it to fit I got to keep the seat "valley" I was really happy about that. The plans at the moment are to permanently weld a 72T sprocket on the rear wheel and do a direct chain drive from the 12 T clutch. Im very concerned about Low end torque I NEED a good take-off speed. 6:1 on a 20" wheel doesn't sound great even with a 6.0 HP engine. If this is lame and not doing what I want my plan is to toss a jackshaft in there right infront of the rear post and find a better ratio. For the moment I'm gonna roll those dice and see what happens, everything I'm doing right now would work if I need to add a jackshaft. Right now I'm working with only from brakes I like the idea of using the rear gear as a disc for a disc brake system. The sprocket itself was like 20$ burning it out wont make me cry.

Since I'm waiting at least 4-5 days for my sprockets and chains and clutch the next thing I'll be working on is a throttle control. As I type this I'm contemplating dumpster diving in some bike shop trash cans for spare parts. I need a cable throttle rig, anything made of metal that looks like a gas tank would be cool and a used disc caliper system would be AWESOME.

Down the line I'd like to see if I can put headlights, brake lights, a radio, a true kickstart, and a keyed "kill switch" with matching lockable storage compartment.

Getting bored waiting on my parts to show up, I welded the seat post in place and made a strait pipe exhaust that should last through the road testing phase.

http://youtu.be/uHLdp1pLvuA

Dumpster diving has yielded nothing at all... Right now I'm still hunting for a throttle control and a gas tank. The gas tank can wait, I have the ugly factory one to work with zip-tied to the frame.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of a jackshaft it would be a really easy way to keep pedals on my bike. It also gives me 101 ways to mess with the transmission. Like I said before when the sprocket arrives I'll be running a 6:1 with 20" wheel BUT with a jackshaft kit I can weld that sucker up in and setup in 3 hours and change that ratio to 8.5:1. OR if I wanna get crazy I can do a clutch to 36 T sprocket and setup the other side with a 11 tooth bike gear/chain and have a true shiftable transmission for incredible takeoff and top speed IF it works.

Throttle control installed along with the clutch

luckily I had everything I needed to make a homeade throttle control. The twist throttle will come later on.

The hub has been polished and ready for the sprocket to be welded to it. Unfortunately 1/4" fuel line is out of stock everywhere I'm calling. I'm going to try one more spot. After that I need to install that sprocket, drill/bolt the engine mount and find about another 2' of #35 chain. According to the tracking details my sprocket should be here tomorrow afternoon. My first motor driven test ride might be tomorrow night.

SUCCESS!!!!!! I met my goal of a rolling bike by the 4th!

I took a VERY slow 1/4 mile run at 11 pm tonight video of first ride to come soon. All was going well till the rear sprocket kicked the chain definitely the poor chain tension was the cause, easily fixed and I'm going to get cracking on that tomorrow. Throttle was great very responsive speed was good I hit about 20 very quick for my lack of throttle. At no time did I go past 50-60% throttle simple because I want to tune everything before going wide open. Sounded GREAT with the strait pipe not too loud even.

If anyone has a twist grip and gas tank for sale trade send me a message btw

First test ride ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l4B58BjPDA warning REALLY dark.

Today I KINDA got the chain to act more reliably still getting some issues with the chain jumping off but its getting less and less I dropped the skatboard wheel and purchased a zinc pully the chain wants to eat it alive being hardened steel but the pully was 6.00 the chain was 20.00 so I'll let it rip it while I'm fine tuning it. This bike is FAST my estimation is about 35-40 MPH and I'm running out of road to test the full speed of it. frankly its scary the first time riding this thing. I even did a "hill climb" on the driveway and it conquered (video to come) The more I ride it the more "normal" the carburetor is getting it might be cleaning itself at this point I'm going to hold off on pulling it all apart. The garage is a mess and I'm going to dedicate just an hour to cleaning. The rear fender needs some slight modification but it should totally fit and look good too the chrome is either going to be polished or just scuffed primed and matt black with the rest of the bike.

To do:

find bike gas tank (anyone who has a spare tank for sale/trade PLEASE message me)
Find twist throttle
perfect gear tensioner
perfect carburetor
strip paint, primer, paint

http://youtu.be/oUpBPz-mQXY good video of day running

double post...

Some thoughts I like the acceleration but two things are digging a hole in my brain

#1 I -HATE- the tensionser I would kill to have a strait sprocket to sprocket setup

#2 I -REALLY- do wanna see what a better gear ratio would feel like

the solution: I already have some bearings (free from the go kart frame) and a housing and a crap ton of steel ready to be welded I want have a jackshaft bolted to the running boards both gears on one side set right in the open gap.

http://i49.tinypic.com/rr184y.jpg

this should give me a big shot of torque for keeping up with traffic and climbing steep hills. If I keep everything to one side that leaves the right side completely free for the original gearing for pedal power. I even saved the old chain, now the only issue is getting the right pedals far out enough to clear that engine but also play nice with that rear sprocket I have no idea if that will work but it if does all I have to do is tack weld that sucker in place and I'm CA approved.

Right now I've decided I need a CVT transmission I'm trying to track down a comet series 30 torque convertor amazing device, I should get great takeoff speed and have top speed of 50-55 mph. They are very pricey though twice what I paid for the engine. once again I'm stuck doing very little till I can get one because the brakes need to be built around the drive. I'm getting my gas tank tomorrow

good test run with the TAV transmission looks great and GREAT takeoff torque

still dealing with chain issues.... UGH

http://www.feked.com/images/detailed/frame324-2-600.jpg

After checking angles a bit more I'm gonna make two of those guys to "pull" the wheel as far back as possible and mess around with washers to try and get the angle perfect and increase the tension on the chain to max. If that doesn't work I'm going to remove as many links as possible and move the axle to far forward. The only problem is dissasembly is going to suck without some slack in the chain.

I'm so sick of that gas tank besides looking ugly it REALLY wants to keep disconnecting the fuel line. thankfully that's going to get fixed soon.

Throttle control is on its way too, should be installed by friday night.

after that I'm going to dive into the brakes situation

SM, great work I've been watching your build progress and it is awesome.

Maybe you could share more information about your sproter setup? ( definition of a sproter = motor drive sprocket with disc brake incorporated onto drive sprocket )

SM, could you also share some information about ths disc brake for others who'd like to add a disc, brake ie a sproter brake setup. What brand of disc brake caliper are you using and where others could find one. Your disc brake caliper / sproter fits perfectly in the rear triangle.

The rear wheel chain adjusters are a great addition to allow chain tension.

Keep up the progress,
Peace C.H.

well its just a plain 72T #35 sprocket off ebay make sure you get the 1-3/8" hole. It got welded to the hub and balanced I was able to weld/adjust it to minimal runout like +/- .050" I'm not sure what brand/model the caliper is I would guess its off a motorcycle but opens to about .250" the sprocket is about .200" so it worked out preety well. I just drilled a mounting hole and used a series of test washers to move it slightly away from the rotor arm towards the disk. it held fine with one 1/4" bolt during testing. after testing went well I attached another bracket and just "swung it" till it hit the bike frame and welded it as is.

Both front and rear parts came from Dmb

All thats missing is manual peddles now

engine, transmission, brakes all running great I even painted the brakes a bit. I am topping out RIGHT at 40 MPH thats gps and the bike counter (the counter is surprisingly accurate only 1 MPH off what the GPS says). I'm thinking the muffler and the shoddy exhaust pipe is keeping it from doing what it should be doing. I'm thinking it might be time to play with that carburetor and see what I can get out of it.
