I started my MB admiration back in 2007 or so. Started building my first bike around 08 or 09. It was just a china girl 66 on a Huffy Panama Jack (like most people, lol). I then got a better frame, with better brakes and moved up to another china girl 66cc but this time, I had a shift kit on it (OOOHHHH, AHHHHH).

I then really got into playing around with my vintage Honda Cubs (C70) and Vespas. I kinda took a hiatus from motorized bikes, I was having too much fun with them (plus, I had big motorcycles to play with, Yamaha R1s, Harleys, Yamahas, Hondas...).

Lately, I moved to the Keys, and since I'm no longer in school, I found some free time. My wife was telling me how I should build another MB, and have some fun riding around the island here. So, I thought, why not...

I bought a little Velo-Solex, and honestly it makes me want to build my own again. I'd rather a 4 stroke, vs a 2 stroke. And I probably want a decent looking bike, with an integrated in-frame gas tank.

What do you guys think of these PATMOTO bikes? DO you think they are worth it? I did a search for them on the site, which weirdly yielded ZERO results. I scrolled a few pages, and still nothing. Also, I remember, back 5-10 years ago, Kings motors and Gasbike were places we all knew to stay away from, since they had horrible customer service, and sub-par quality parts. I believe that we all said the same things... The motors are all Chinese crap... Buy the Chinese crap from places that will back-up their products with good warrantees and good customer services.

So, Phatmoto... Good or bad?
And Gasbike/Kings motors... Good or bad?

Thanks for any help. Here's a picture of my current motorized bike (Solex 3500_

I'm not a hater and am kinda' prone to ignore other's unsolicited advice on who to do business with so. I've bought some parts from Gas bikes and was satisfied with them as a vendor...no problems. I have seen some of the posts which are contrarian to my own experience however & I'd say their posts of bad experience gives weight in the extreme opposite to my own.

I like your Solex. I don't remember ever seeing one.

Thanks Rick.

I'll wait a bit, gather some more info, and see what I do...

But, the Solex is a blast man. It's very hard to find now-a-days, since they're not too many here in the States. Plus, to me, it's the first mass produces motorized bike. It's literally a bicycle with a motor on it. So, it makes it even better. So, if you can find one, I recommend picking up (as long as the price is right, of course). I'm amazed on how incredibly reliable it is...

Any other advice? Any info?

Phatmoto? Worth it?

Kings/gasbike?? Better than before? Should I give them a chance?
I can't say yes or no, to the bikes quality etc. or the company that's selling it, but I noticed they accept PayPal & in my experience if a vendor messes up they will get your money back, at least that's been my experience with PayPal & I only do internet business through them!

It's a really good looking package and the price is attractive so I understand why your leaning towards this purchase.

I value Norm's advice.

This is a little dated (2 months ago) and I don't really have anything on Phatmoto.
But, I've dealt with Gasbike.net a coupe times with no issues, (their spring tensioner is the best i've seen). 1 down side was customer service. The number listed always gets VM and no return call. I tried everyday for a week, sometimes more than once a day. Got nothin. Email, prior to the sale, great response. After? Nothin. I think they only review presale because post sale is so many problems. Pity, because I looked their product and pricing, but without support I'll go back to Amazon.

PS: I'm with Rick on your Solex. Never seen one, **** never seen a front drive....Gas!!!...Friction drive!!!... WHAAT!?!?!
That thing is VERY cool!
IF I ever found one, what do you think is a "reasonable" price?

I've seen mixed stuff about both vendors. My 79cc was bought through gasbike, and I haven't had any issues with their parts, and so, haven't had to contact them. I haven't ever gone through King's ever since the first motor I got had a hole in the top of the piston almost six years ago, and I couldn't get a hold of them. According to some people, that is still an issue with KMB, but that may be just a few isolated cases, as I don't see much about them.

As far as the Phatmoto bikes, they look good, but I haven't had one yet, so I can't really give you a comprehensive breakdown of their quality. The moment that changes, I'll leave a detailed review.

Thank you guys for the heads up about Kings/Gasbike and also Phatmoto. I just want to build another bike. And I'm really digging the 4 strokes.

Also, that Solex is great. Look me up on Youtube. I'm DONPhantasmo and I love playing around with that thing.

Anyways, cheers, everyone.

I bought a Phatmoto last September 2019. Right away you can tell certain parts where cheap. Cheap clutch, breaks, seat, handle bars, front shock, tires. The frame is a good frame, but cheap paint. I put a bike lock around seat post. Nice coated lock, but after a bumpy off-road ride the paint was scuffed alot. Guess that's why they sent a bottle of touch up paint. I know I treated my bike bad over this past winter, but I've seen bikes sit through a whole winter and not rust as bad. I had the bike on the back of my jeep for two months in winter weather as the wife and I traveled. Way to many things rusted very quickly. My back wheel is possibly needing replaced. The seem where the rim joins to make a complete circle is showing signs of coming apart. If your not mechanically inclined I wouldn't get the Phatmoto.
