Hey guys, long time lurker and have been gathering ideas for a board track racer tribute bike. I have mechanical and fabrication experience, have restored two Japanese bike nut and bolt and build a motorized bike from scratch. So pretty good on the mechanical of things. But with the Board track tribute, I am in between building a frame from scratch, or getting a klunker or something similar and cutting the down tube and weld a drop loop in its place. Or can you guys recommend another frame other than a klunker. Also, I am thinking wheels need.to come first. What hubs should I be looking for as well as wheel size? Sorry for the noob questions.

Frame type to me depends on which engine you plan to run, a lot of people build 79cc predators and use a heavier frame like a upper end cruiser. Something with heavy tubing and good welds. I’ve spent most of my time riding bikes with the little 48cc engines, my oldest bike is a aluminum frame that is 11 years old.

I would try to find a complete bike with heavy duty steel wheels to start with.

Look on Craigslist & OfferUp for a nice old 'heavy duty' Worksman or Schwinn, & modify the frame to suite your engine choice.

If you read the hole tread you will know I stopped on the way home from Florida, and got to see first hand. he should me all the changes he had done and had to do, and all the home made detail, especially the bracing. Then he is my kind of guy, same artistic ability's, so that took a while, longer visit. LOL.
There are a couple more good builds( home made ) one is Goldy's BSA copy.
I have stopped, and seen a couple guys on my excursions around the country, Silverbear, Trackferder, I even got to go with silverbear, and fastdedy to pickup a engine. That was a day to remember, and also got a couple of discarded goodies form the gentleman, he no longer wanted.
One of the biggest stops I made was at the Donut Derelict in Hannington Beach Ca. msrfan and a bunch where there, along with there beautiful bike. quite hart warming to see them in person.
People need to go through the old threads and read..........LOL........Curt
