Removing exhaust studs

I have the 49cc 'Ghost Racer' 4-stroke, and I am looking to create my own exhaust system on it- the problem is the studs mounted in the head for the existing system... they are 2" long!!! I tried the standard vice grip approach, but couldn't get anything to move without what I consider excessive force. They unscrew, right?

Yes they unscrew...maybe fire up engine and get studs hot then unscrew.

Yep double nut them, lock one against the other then us socket.............Curt

Exactly! How could I forget the Double Nutter..as MrFox said
