What size / type of nuts are used to fasten the gas tank to the bicycle?

For some reason, I did not receive the nuts for the gas tank in my kit, and I was wondering what type and size nuts I need to use to screw onto the gas tank stubs to mount it to the bike? I will be visiting the hardware store once I know this, or bring the tank to the store. I just joined this forum, and am looking forward to being part of this community and learning more about all of this.

There are two styles of tanks.
The larger 3/4 gallon uses 6 mm 1.0 nuts that are the same size as your motor mounting studs or sprocket nuts which is easy to check.

The smaller 1/2 gallon tank uses 5 mm 1.0 nuts.

I have the 1.5 liter tank, what size does that use?

the 1/2 gal tank is sometimes called a 2.5 liter - if it isn't one of these, send a pic

also, they may have fallen out of bag & lodged under a bottom flap of box

Try one of the 6 mm nuts from motor mounting studs or sprocket nuts.

If it is too big then your tank uses 5 mm 1.0 nuts.

I'm thinking for the small tank it's the m4 x .7 nuts, I can double check the size when I get to the shop in the morning.

The magneto bolts are 4 mm
Tank studs are 5 mm double checked.
