It would be nice if there were some other places to ride around here. The only nice places are quiet neighborhoods, and I hate to disturb the peace with a loud motorized bicycle.

Anywhere else is full of crazies! Way too much traffic in this little town!

Except for a few bike routes, it isn't bike friendly at all!

What trail in Tyler?
South Tyler Trails aka Rose Rudman
I lived in Tyler from 1998 to 2009
Cool.
The only one I know of is Rose Rudman, but I don't think I'd take a motorized bicycle on it.

I live in Tyler, but haven't been riding much lately.
I've been wondering. I think I'm just going to ask one of the bike cops to see what they think. I love the trail, but the Rose Rudman portion is too crowded with little kids and fat people that DON'T. FREAKING. MOVE. when there is a bike behind them that wants to pass.

I ride mostly around my neighborhood. And FYI, Tyler isn't that little. lol 110k people and I think it's closer to 130k during the day when you consider the folks that drive an hour to get to work in town.

Where in Tyler do you live? I'm in far south across the the Walmart on Broadway...

I know it isn't that little, but I came out from the Phoenix, AZ area. Over 4 million. The traffic is still crazy here though, especially on Broadway, or anywhere close to the mall!

I'm over on the ESE side, by UT Tyler.
My son lives over in your area, off of Grande.

I do like sight seeing around the quiet neighborhoods during the day; the engine noise isn't bad. I just feel bad about making noise riding around at night, but that's when the weather is nice.

I really should get out and ride more. I spend too much time trying to find work that pays in something other than IOUs!

The area in front of the mall is a b1tch most times during the day with most people driving almost 20 under the speed limit. I've found that my big truck can fit through some pretty small spaces pretty quickly. lol
And I can see coming from Phoenix being an issue. lol

He live in the apartments off Grande?
And I totally understand about riding around neighbor hoods at night, never done it. lol But heat doesn't really bother me when I'm moving considering I will ride either of my pedal bikes when it's 100+ out. :D

Yeah, the mall area is bad most of the day. I hate the drivers that cut across 3 lanes of traffic at the last minute to get there, just because they were too stupid to plan ahead and get in the right lane! <insert head-explody emoticon here>

I usually take the new Grande if I need to get over to your area. There isn't hardly ever anyone on it! My 67 Cougar prefers the open spaces! LOL
Sometimes I'll sneak up on Lowe's, Pet Smart or Northern Tools by coming down Shiloh, but even that road has gotten pretty bad!

My son used to live even closer to you, I think it was the Brook Hollow apartments, or something like that. Bad place! His car was broken into so many times that he left it unlocked just to keep it from getting damaged!

Maybe I should build a faster motorized bicycle to get through traffic better. My friction drive is good, but not very fast for escaping texting SUVers!

Brookhollow is bad, yeah. I use that parking lot to cut through from the tire shop. lol
New Grande is great, I've been meaning to get on the bike on it, then the carb broke. lol
And Shiloh is bad, yeah. They all are.

There aren't any up here in Tyler. lol I had seen one old guy several months ago, but haven't seen him since.

How do you guys ride on walking trails? I would be scared out of my mind to ride my bike on the trails by my house, which would be very nice to ride a motorized bicycle on. But they ARE patrolled by bike cops occasionally. Now, there isn't a sign that says no motorized bicycles...I guess I might have to catch one of those cops one of these days.
I don't think the police will say anything about riding on the trails as long as you keep your speed way down. There's really not any spicific law against riding a motor bicycle on a trail, but if they felt you were riding in an unsafe maner that would be a problem.

I almost never motor on busy trails, but just pedal with no motor. If there's hardly anyone on the trail then I'm not afraid to motor it.

Even if the trail is marked no motor vehicles that shouldn't be a problem, because most motor bicycles aren't considered motor vehicles in Texas.

There is only a couple really busy spots, the back side of the trail by the middle school is almost always empty and there is some really nice twists and turns and high speed sections.
In the busy part of the trail, I have a hard time maintaining 15 mph on my pedal bikes. Freakin fat people and little kids not paying attention. :p

Most of the people on the trail act like it's their private property. They get annoyed if someone else wants to get by.
Joggers, dog walkers (that don't pick up after), parents with strollers, etc.

It's too busy for me to ride there, but there isn't really much around here. There are a few "bike routes" that are really just poorly maintained shoulder areas.
In one of the newer subdivisions near me, they have some nice wide bike lanes. That is the area where most spandexers ignore the bike lane and ride 2 or 3 side by side and block traffic.
It isn't really much good for anything since it doesn't lead anywhere that you need to go.

Most of the expensive bicycles that I see going down the road are on the top, or bike rack on the back of Lexus or Mercedes SUVs.

It's their "go green" badge!

The fat walkers are the people I have problems with, if the joggers aren't plugged up, they scoot over. Stroller people can be bad too sometimes. Fellow riders don't even acknowledge another rider. It pisses me off. I acknowledge every rider I see, what do I get? Nothing. Jerks.

Tylerites are jerks I swear. lol As for Mercedes SUVs with bikes on them, my Ram gets much worse gas mileage and I STILL ride a bike. I think that says something.
@happy, LMAO

Yes, but are you showing the world that you are a greenie, with a $5,000 to $10,000 bicycle as a status badge?

If you don't have the status symbol bicycle, you just aren't in their league! :p

If you do have one, and actually ride it, you must be some kind of whacko!

LOL

You are SO right! What am I thinking?!

That was so wrong of me to think that, I am nothing compared to them. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Oh, wait, I must be a borderline hipster too, since I ride a 1968 3 speed!
