Mods please forgive me as I am retarded, I think I've posted this twice but its not showing up in the forums so if you have to, please delete the previous post my apologies.
Someone mentioned this forum and I like what I'm seeing here. I'm currently slicing and dicing a schwinn OCC. It has a nice and beefy 6 hp tecumseh power sport 195 cc engine. Sorry 66cc's is not my thing although cool.
Project goals:
under 400$
CA street legal
streetable
good bottom end torque
45 mph+ (on private track)
I sent in my paperwork to the CA DMV I have to put a restrictor plate or some device that cuts the horsepower down to 2 or less and 30MPH or less for CA roads. Off CA roads or out of state I like the idea I can remove the governing device and jump up to 45 mph.
one-time CA moped registration was 19$
project "mighty-mouse" started off as a 75$ schwinn OCC single gear bike
I snagged a 6HP tecumseh and "shoddy" gokart frame for 80$
Thank you craigslist!
I just ordered a max torque 12T clutch a 72 tooth rear sprocket and misc chain hardware, that was just about 60$ with shipping
Thank you Ebay!
I snagged some scrap metal in East LA for 10$
so I'm JUST under 250$ into this project.
I need a motor-cycle'esk gas tank and a twist throttle assembly and she should be ready to test drive.

The frame was too small for the engine so I cut and re welded it to fit I got to keep the seat "valley" I was really happy about that. The plans at the moment are to permanently weld a 72T sprocket on the rear wheel and do a direct chain drive from the 12 T clutch. Im very concerned about Low end torque I NEED a good take-off speed. 6:1 on a 20" wheel doesn't sound great even with a 6.0 HP engine. If this is lame and not doing what I want my plan is to toss a jackshaft in there right infront of the rear post and find a better ratio. For the moment I'm gonna roll those dice and see what happens, everything I'm doing right now would work if I need to add a jackshaft. Right now I'm working with only from brakes I like the idea of using the rear gear as a disc for a disc brake system. The sprocket itself was like 20$ burning it out wont make me cry.
Since I'm waiting at least 4-5 days for my sprockets and chains and clutch the next thing I'll be working on is a throttle control. As I type this I'm contemplating dumpster diving in some bike shop trash cans for spare parts. I need a cable throttle rig, anything made of metal that looks like a gas tank would be cool and a used disc caliper system would be AWESOME.
Down the line I'd like to see if I can put headlights, brake lights, a radio, a true kickstart, and a keyed "kill switch" with matching lockable storage compartment.
