had to take my motor to the shop today to have a stud removed...took it to meineke.they removed the broken stud but i lost some threads in the process.he told me to fill the hole about half way up with JB weld and screw in the stud and let it cure....then i could remove the stud.not sure this is going to work.....any thoughts?

I know JB can do a lot, but I have no experience with it that way. Have you tried a Google search? From what I see at a glance, it's not the best. Among other solutions, Lock-Tite makes a thread repair compound that could be better suited to the task.

check out the time-sert stripped thread repair kits on amazon. its kinda spendy but it comes with 5 inserts so you could strip out a few more and be covered. ive found it is truly the best way to fix the threads on these motors. and since 6mm is every stud and bolt except for the head( unless you have 6mm head studs too) then this is a valuable tool.

checked it out but its way out of my budget.i could reaplace the whole bottom end for $60.
also there is not enough supporting material to drill it out any further.the hole is to close to the edge of the case.

If you can still get a stud to ,bite a few turns in it, just use the red lock tite. Worked for me and I have over 800 miles since doing so. You may have to use a shorter stud and re-engineer your mount, but that's the fun easy stuff. Think outside the box (hate that term).

I have used JB Weld when I have some of the threads left. It`s useless if completely stripped but it will hold good if you have some threads for it to bond to. I have about 1200 miles on a JB repair job.

I have done this on a old head to experiment with. I drilled all the way through into the the cylinder stud hole. . Then I taped as far as I could, stopping short of the cylinder itself. Didn't want the tap to bind. . There is about 1/4" more to be used. Coated the stud with (I use red) lock tite. Install a cylinder bolt where drilled, screw the stud in to the cylinder stud and back off about 1/4 turn, and let sit at least overnight, 24 hrs if you can. I used a drill press and made a jig for the cylinder jug. I've also aluminum welded the hole, drilled, and cut new threads. Works like a champ.

I had similar issue with my spark plug hole thread got stripped, always be careful when you loosen or tighten spark plug! These cheap threads can easily get stripped. I took it to a local machinist who welded the hole up then drill a hole and tap, problem solved. He also milled out the head and when I installed it, it actually made my engine pull stronger!

alrightie, i had the same situation a few weeks ago. if you stripped the motor mounts or similar sizes, dont drill it out, if you haven't damaged it too bad, go get a 1/4-20 tap for a few bucks as well as 1/4-20 threaded rod (electrical section- 5 dolars for like 5 feet). carefully tap it and use some red or blue loc tite.
