1977 US Motorized Bicycle Laws

Mopeds became popular after the initial oil price shocks of the '70's. Looks like the first go round of moped laws after that.

I guess MBs are not that new

Nope, not at all ;)

Thomas Motor Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1896, E.R. Thomas of Buffalo, New York began selling gasoline engine kits for propelling ordinary bicycles. After forming the Thomas Motor Company, he began selling complete motor-assisted bicycles under the name Auto-Bi. The Auto-Bi is generally considered to be the first production motorized bicycle made in the United States.

Vibration eliminated! rotfl

That thing is cool! It just SCREAMS Steam-Punk!

I want one.

Lol, it costs about the same for a kit these days haha. No bike included though.

Wow BA !

That's a nice lookin bike!

LTS has a thrashed MTB with a chrome fork just like that Thomas...
I haggled with the mgr over price and she'd let me have it for $10.
...just what I need.. spend $10 to have more bike parts in the pile!
the chromey fork would be a nice start for a springer, though...

Laws, laws, and more laws...
just gotta go to court, enter a plea of NOT Guilty of a crime and appeal your conviction of contractual violation up through the court system until we win.
The laws just do not suit the needs of the public at this point in time.
And I suspect a cheaply operated fuel saver for personal transport without taxation and regulation will be even more necessary in the near future.

I don't have a problem with a 30mph cap on speed for a MAB.
A bicycles brakes are only so good!
A racing violator could be fined for being reckless. ...disturbing the peace...

Wanna go faster? Get a moped or mc. Pay the license taxes, fees, and insurance.

Best
