My First Motorized Bicycle.

I'm getting ready to build my first motorized bicycle. I have already bought the bike. I plan on using what seems to be classic at this time. The Kulana moon dog. Though I'm not to crazy with the paint job and those sparkles all over it, I've seen many good reviews.

and I will use the king's 80cc motor. though I believe after reading many articles and threads on this forum that it is most probably around 60cc. But it will work for me.
 
Oh and if anyone has used this particular model of bike, doesn't matter which color, could you post your image so i can see what the finished product might look like. (If I don't screw up. lol).

I could not tell you where to get one either. I bought my motor first and was looking for a good mountain bike to put it on. I just happen to go to a yard sale and found my Della Cruz brand new still in the box for $15.00 :D

I am so glad I went with the cruiser.

Ok everything is ordered and payed for. I'm going to use a mechanical speedometer. Pyramid Speedometer will do. It measures speed and has an odometer. I don't have to worry about batteries or figuring out how to use it, or sun glare with mechanical.

There ya go messin around in that photoshop. I love to build stuff on the computer first. It gives you a good idea of what it will look like in real life. I think you'll really like that bicycle with a motor installed..........................
 
I never had good luck with the mechanical speedometer and finally went with a digital speedo. the mechanical one , the needle jumped around too much.
 
hmm, i don't know. The real reason i want a mechanical speedometer is not for the speedometer but for an accurate odometer. I don't trust the electronics. I am afraid it might reset when the battery gets low. And I may not have batteries.
 
its always fun to know how fast your going or how fast you have gone as some digital speedo's keep a max speed! and they are , I believe more accurate! as for battery's most walmart stores have the batteries and you can get them from the electronic's dept. the battery # is on most of them cr2032. and also a lot of them you can set your odometer to what it previously was , so losing any info you can always reset it.
 
On the digital speedometer you get codes for the wheel size...it's pretty close.

But if you measure your tire and multiply the diameter in millimeters by 3.1416 to determine wheel factor and then enter that number it will be more accurate.
 
ok, Well it's almost here. MY bicycle comes tuesday, and my motor wednesday. That gives me a chance to get a feel for my bicycle before putting a motor on it. I should go ahead and order lights and an odometer/speedometer.
 
So far I have mounted the motor and fixed the rear sprocket. I have completed the drivechain (or is it drivetrain) i have gotten the motor's chain on the bike and what took today's four hours was figuring out how to put the bicycle chain back on. (it is a multispeed). I am working on the cdi and clutch. But the wires that attach from the cdi to the wires on the motor were to short to reach from the top of the frame. I am concerned about the piece that mounts near the sprocket that the chain runs on. the wheel on it is loose and moves around, and (unless i managed to position it so that it doesn't do this) every now and then it causes the chain to pop off of the sprocket. I'm going to try and ride my bike without the motor today to test the sprocket chain. I must know however is it alright to move the bike around and pedal it without the clutch on it or the sparkplug in it.

Not really a good ideal grandpa to pedal around turning the motor...without it running the motor will not get any lube.

Are you sure your rear sprocket and front (Motor) sprocket are lined up together. The tensioner roller will have a little play in it. Sometimes flipping the rear sprocket over will help align the sprockets.

ok, i'm not sure what the clutch is. I don't seem to have it. I have what appears to be a brake leaver but the images in the instructional pictures don't match up.
