sprocketless design

Sit here for several hours and spend your time banning people that register here, don't have the initiative or courtesy to introduce themselves but try to post links on their first thread and you'd loose patients too. It's like being in a room full of like minded people and some dude walks in, doesn't bother to introduce himself but starts handing out business cards aimed at his agenda. That's how I view someone who can't even give his location other than a arcane entry like, 'earth'. I have little tolerance for them and want to ban them on principle only. It's disrespectful and rude. Sorry; I'm just a little burnt today.

On what's left of the topic(lol) They do make shaft drives for us 'cylers. It would be cool to see an HT hooked up to something like this via Jack-Shaft.

That's what I was thinking. Well, some sort of worm gear. HF has vertical shaft replacement lawn mower engines that would make awesome rack mounts. Just have never found a power transmission like you have pictured that would work. lol, been talking about this for yrs and still got nutton. Has to be some thing already mass produced that would work. Like the attachment to make a drill function right angle.

Any ideas?
 
Remember the Lloyd's drive, it was cool, my grandfather had one. Check it...

Dan, I just Google'd 'bicycle shaft drive' and posted the first pic to come up, Schwinn makes them along with some others :) I've seen them before, but they were way overpriced, you could get a goldwing shaft off a crasher for wayy cheaper man. Their getting better nowadays, now that every-other manufacturer has them.

Tipsy and Al, that was an awesome trilogy! The movies sucked compared to the books :D

Here's a few more picts. Lloyd's made the Quadrant bike. They also made engines, including a 624cc single cylinder. My grandfather brought one back by ship in the 40's, it was a 1899 or 1900. I still have it, but the frame was smashed in an accident, the gear box is still intact. But since the shaft makes up the rear part of the bike, I have never done anything with it, still in my grandmother's attic. Would be interesting to see the same design work on the left hand side. It is a very simple system. They used to advertise it as a solution for not soiling the pants or dress with mud, which chain drives would do. Of course they also didn't think of chain guards back then either, lol. I could see a larger sprocket mounted to the clutch bell, that interlocks with the shaft gears, the shaft could then run back to a sprocket on the wheel. Could be done easily. You wouldn't need a gear reduction box if you do the ratios right, I think. Enjoy!

Hmm on second thought you would need a reduction small gear to the larger gear, but then you wouldn't go to a small sprocket for a chain, just a same size sprocket to the shaft. I'd like to see a mod on a G4, where the small chain sprocket could be replaced with the shaft drive. Keep the ideas floating. I hate chains!!!
