The confusion about 'fruit' and 'vegetable' arises because of the differences in usage between scientists and cooks. Scientifically speaking, a tomato is definitely a fruit. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant (though cultivated forms may be seedless). Blueberries, raspberries, and oranges are true fruits, and so are many kinds of nut. Some plants have a soft part which supports the seeds and is also called a 'fruit', though it is not developed from the ovary: the strawberry is an example. As far as cooking is concerned, some things which are strictly fruits may be called 'vegetables' because they are used in savoury rather than sweet cooking. The tomato, though technically a fruit, is often used as a vegetable, and a bean pod is also technically a fruit. The term 'vegetable' is more generally used of other edible parts of plants, such as cabbage leaves, celery stalks, and potato tubers, which are not strictly the fruit of the plant from which they come. Occasionally the term 'fruit' may be used to refer to a part of a plant which is not a fruit, but which is used in sweet cooking: rhubarb, for example. So a tomato is the fruit of the tomato plant, but can be used as a vegetable in cooking.

To really figure out if a tomato is a fruit or vegetable, you need to know what makes a fruit a fruit, and a vegetable a vegetable. The big question to ask is, DOES IT HAVE SEEDS? If the answer is yes, then technically, (botanically) you have a FRUIT. This, of course, makes your tomato a fruit. It also makes cucumbers, squash, green beans and walnuts all fruits as well. Along with the fruit from from a plant or tree, we can often eat the leaves (lettuce,) stems (celery,) roots (carrots,) and flowers (broccoli.) Many of these other parts of the plant are typically referred to as VEGETABLES. Now don't go looking for tomatoes next to the oranges in your grocery stores; fruits like tomatoes and green beans are usually (alas, incorrectly) referred to as "vegetables" in most grocery stores and cookbooks.

A bottle of catsup lasts so long around our house that it has to be kept in the frig.

French fries and catsup are good but french fries and tartar sauce are gooder (mayo will do if there's no tartar sauce). Don't say yuk if you haven't tried it.

Speaking of mayo ... try mixing a little Tabasco with mayo to make a sauce to eat along with a hard boiled egg and saltine crackers ... mighty tasty.

I said, in , but I don’t think it is the question of the century . I think this is > how to cook an carp, my old recipe is put an carp in an pot with an 2x4 , add water and salt , boil for 1hr. Then remove carp and 2x4 , discard carp and add pepper to the 2x4 and enjoy!
how would you cook an carp ?

I was having lunch with a couple of guys last summer and one of them ordered ranch dressing on the side. He used it on his fries. I had to try one; it was great, lots better than catsup, ketchup... I'll have to try the tartar sauce. Have you ever tried shrimp cocktail sauce? That's good with fries too. So is horseradish.

Years ago I watched a TV show about classic TV shows, the engine in that thing was mostly plastic and wood, a stage prop kind of thing.

I have tried ranch dressing on fries ... you're right ... very good. But then ranch dressing is good on everything ... well maybe not on oatmeal ... but everything else (just about) lol. Try it on your tacos from taco bell ... delicious!

The cocktail sauce on fries sounds good ... will try. I'm gonna try the horseradish too but I gotta admit I'm a little leary on that one!

Nope. George Barris didn't build "prop cars"

Munster Koach - Combination stretch fiberglass drag racer and touring car (a.k.a. "The Munster Mobile") especially designed by George Barris (in only twenty-one days) for the occult comedy THE MUNSTERS/CBS/1964-66. Owned by Herman Munster, the Munster Koach's power train has a 30-inch Posi-Shift stick, four-on-the-floor 300 H.P. 289 Ford Cobra V-8 engine (from a 1966 Mustang GT) with Isky Cams, Jahns high-compression pistons, a Mickey Thompson long ram thrust manifold supplying 10 chrome-dipped Stromberg carburetors and Bobby Barr funnel racing headers.

Mounted on a 133-inch frame is a 6-door touring roadster with a 1927 Model-T bucket grafted to the rear end. Both were covered with 40 coats of high gloss black pearl paint.

The steering/suspension system includes a direct vertical steering, front dropped axles, split radius bars held by "T" spring (rear Z frame with Model "A" spring), master stabilizers and Mickey Thompson 11-inch wide rear racing slicks (Ansen Astro wheels trimmed with knock off hubs and walnut wood inserts and Pirelli snow donut tires on the front).
