well, i had a notice that i haven't posted or participated on forum for alittle while, so i guess i really should give some updates on my project.

this is the first place i landed looking to mine the archives and ask questions.

i recieved a hearty welcome and many replies of incouragement and warning both, for which i am grateful.

i decided to go GEBE and a CY GP460 from DDM w/ 14 tooth cog mounted on a TREK 4500.

this is going to be my year round work vehicle. ( 30 ml. round trip 6 days a week)

my GEBE mount kit and wheels left GEBE today to come the 75 mls. to me, so i kind of hope i'll have it Sat. but we'll see.

still rounding up parts for my light system, tach, speedo etc. so all in all making good progress.

thanks,
steve

spad4me,
this whole setup is going to be right at 55#'s, i'm 5'4" and 135#'s in full racing leathers and helmet.

with the Dominator pipe, hot ignition and good mixture the mechanics at the local outlaw scooter shop have est. 14,000rpm no problem, highest i've ever heard of was 17,000 which is some crazy rpm's. i also have very good testamony that this setup has shown over 50mph on the gps with both a heavier bike and rider, so time will tell.

i've done my homework. i intend to ALWAYS pedal up to atleast 15 mph and EASE into the throttle progressively.

Den has assured me that his T40 will bust his bike up if it's thrown wide open, but , if it's given some respect and consideration will really go and never quit.

reviews and pics to follow.

thnaks,
steve

You can't see my drool over your setup.
I am thinking of building something for looooong hauls.
I was leaning towards a 50 cc honda staton kit, but I must admit the GP460 looks good.
And a GEBE system is smooth and reliable.

Post a-lot of pictures please.

will do on the pics, there are a bunch of what i think will be interesting features to this project.

depending on how Looooooooong you are meaning, weight, weather issues etc. the staton drive could have many benefits.

you might realize that there is a 2 stroke aircooled 55cc engine readily available that does well over 5hp out of the box and is being built to 9+hp on a regular basis.

i'd think the staton would be 1 ofthe better ways to put that on a bike since you would have so much gearing lateral to work with.

you are significatly my senior and have been around this MUCH longer than me so i won't pretend to preach to you, but if you want to talk thru some of your thoughts and plans please shoot me a PM.

Your build puts you waaaaaay ahead of just about anybody except a guy who has built a similar ride he is a new member here too.
The number of posts is not really an indication of skill except fot the moderators.

In Arizona something as powerful as a GP460 would get me stopped for sure it is the maximum that I would use . Better to use something under 50 cc .

Here is the builder of a similar ride. Toques

spad4me,
i saw that whole thread awhile ago, absolutly unbelievable.

here in Indiana we have a very relaxed motorassited bicycle code, and i have the whole page it's on in the motor vehicle code copied and in my wallet along with my CDL ClassB w/ public passanger and motorcycle indorsements.

the only issue i foresee would be one of speed if i don't pay attention and let some traffic control slip up on me. ver unlikely considering the route and times of day i'll be traveling, but you never know.

you may be interested in the Active 50 engine as a candidate too, if you want to hold the 50cc line. there is the BlueBird 57 you may enjoy looking at, just for refernce of course. ; ))

interestingly, i just found a chung yang factory table on a german site that lists the max rpm of the gp420 and gp460 both as 18,000 and those figures are with the stock exhaust.

no doubt no load reading.

Number of post, and or age is absolutely no indication of skill. I am the perfect example of that. Butchery is about all I'm good for. Sounds like you are going to have a great bike good luck.

The only thing not covered with road film and oil, on the left side as I sit astride my bike is a carefully laminated hand printed sign thas says AZ HB 2796 every cruiser that pulls up alongside has called that in and waved good by as they pulled away.

I wonder if the gp460 has been de tuned for the US market .
18,000 rpm would be nice in a stock engine.

I was thinking of building my own kit.
Order the ring, belt, and drive sprocket from gebe.
I do the rest during the hellishly hot summer.
Here on the winter 80 degrees , In the summer 120+
The local casino's used to get ALL my money now a motorized bicycle will get some.

it strikes me as likely that AZ HB 2796 may identify you as a person deservant of honor having attained distinction in some service, possibly civil, military or political ?

as it may be, well met sir.

i don't know if there could be varying specs. you can go to........

...and nose around like i did.

HA, i guess i should have looked first, that's the state statute !!

it's all good though, i try to never miss a chance to give honor where due. or even suspected.

steve

do a Google search of GP460 max rpm the match is the last entry on the second page, you'll recognize the source line.

Re: Keeping current, kind of long, sorry

OK, back to the main subject.

GEBE build using 2006 TREK 4500 WS hardtail mountain bike as a base.

as of today all i have left to bring together are my lighting parts, brake switches and a twist throttle. these are all local sourcing and i know where to go get them.

my GP460 is here along with the nitroblast ignition and DDM Dominator pipe. i have a set of super secret clutch springs on the way that are supposed to bring the clutch full on somewhere between 3000-3500 rpm.

there will be more about these springs later as they should work in all 2 stroke 76-78mm clutch applications and i hope to make them available.

i recieved my GEBE mount kit and wheels today and examined the parts. every thing was packaged WAY better than the average shipping driver could overcome and manage to break anything inside. they would have to make an obvious effort to do it.

the DDM Dominator pipe and the GEBE drive unit have issues that i recognized from pictures before i made my purchases, no surprize there. took me 5 mins. to test fit both to the engine, confirm the needed mod to the Dom. mounting bracket and layout the correction. i'll have that delt with and the mounting secured by noon tomorrow.

there will be a spacing mod shown that will enable the use of Bontrager Hank 2.2 tires front and back. these tires are seriously tall and have the largest circumference of any tire i know of that is close to narrow enough to fit the GEBE setup and REQUIRE the spacing mod to make it in. the math says these tires are VERY close to other tires and the use of the non-existant 15 tooth drive cog.

the rest will be standard GEBE installation as far as i can see.

i'll have pics to share later tomorrow of the patient stripped and preped, the Dom.pipe mod and fitting w/ the drive unit in place.

i know i won't have it on it's feet till later Monday evening, but intend to take pics of the main stages and interesting parts as it goes.

thanks to all for the support, helpful comments, tricks and parts. :D

yes that's the bike though mine is a solid color that seems to defy description. it's seems blue indoors, kind of an odd purple in sunlight.

it was sold for the ladies market, go figure. it can be changed later.

well, thought i'd post another update for my Trek 4500/ GEBE w/ GP460 build. i had a lot of problems to chase down, all of my own making or ignorance.

i've got the drive system completely sorted, my engine broke in and my fuel system finalized. still have my lights to do and i'll be sorting my windshield mounting options.

here's a pic with the new seat and fuel arrangement. pretty much done at that end.

That looks pretty cool. I really like the fuel tanks. That is very original......................
thanks for the compliment but the fuel system isn't original to me, i just expanded the originators idea to work for me and have a full 2L of fuel onboard.

to see the original description and illustration go to Golden Eagle Bike Engines, click on "reviews" and look for "Willie in California "

in my case the rear bottle is air tight and draws fuel from the vented front tank.

Hello, sorry for digging up an older thread but, I was actually looking to do the same thing. I just wanted to know, were can I get the drive kit from GEBE? There website doesn't seem to have anything for sale on it anymore. Did you the mounting kit from GEBE or did you make your own? How has the setup worked out for you so far? and Would it be possible to run a chain drive, or was there a reason why you chose to do the belt drive?

.. sorry for all the questions, I am new to the motor bicycle thing :p
