First pics with the new Dellorto

Christmas came early, I bought a dellorto PHBG 16 AS and mallosi filter for it. The carb is a tuners dream: main jet, pilot jet, starter jet, 26 different needles, 4 different cutaways, different float weights, different throttle guide angles as well as float bowl with a plug for quick jet changes are only some of what can be done not to mention what comes aftermarket. Got it mounted up tonight and made a little better filter element, everything fits within my 21'' frame. Cost a few bucks but well worth it. If anyone is thinking of going this route and need measurements to verify I'm glad to help out.dnut

what size is your jet i just bought a dellroto sha 16.16 and the only adj is the size if the main and only jet and stock its way to rich and i have to solder and drill the jet

It came with a 74 from the factory and i ordered a 5 pack of jets in the 70's range, there is a quick rule of thumb that says for every 1 mm you increase you're carb bore size you go up 10% on you're jet, its not perfect but a rule of thumb so i should be close with the jets i belive. I haven't run this carb yet its snowing hard rt now.

so i guess your not gonna be out wen its snowing, im trying to winterize my bike as its my only way around so i guess im going to have to just hang in and dress warm, you think the bike will run at -20 celsius?

i thought of that and i figured my best bet would be to maybe use so fuel line antifreeze or some sort of additive to keep the fuel from freezing and i would shut of the gas and ran the bike till it starved for gas everytime so theres no gas left in the fuel line to freeze

Pure unleaded freezes around -150F so I doubt that will be an issue lol but there could be other problems like your cable lube thickening up to the point of jamming.

Carb ice is more of an issue of ambient humidity and the venturi effect, it's not uncommon for it to happen even at 60F if it's a very humid day. As usually cold weather is also really low humidity you shouldn't have much of a problem unless yer sucking a lot of spray from your tires or whatnot.

So thats why my inlet manifold gets really really really cold

Spitfire
I run mine up here in Ft Collins CO at anywhere from -10F to -20F and as mentioned earlier unless you are getting tire wash/spray I've never had it freeze up on me.

Can you tell us what the diameter of the connection is.
Dose it clamp right onto the stock intake or is it bigger than the stock intake.
I plan on buying 1 soon.
The PHGB

Their is a nylon bushing where it clamps on. The od is 26 mm and the id is 24 mm. Their is another one available from dellorto that has the same od and a 23 mm id.I had to machine a nylon bushing in order to adapt it as i believe the od of the ht manifold was somewhere around 0.744 inches. The nylon bushing was machined a few thou tight on both dimensinos to get a good leak free seal as nylon will expand a little.I did first try a piece of 3/4'' ID heater hose and it was a snug tight fit HOWEVER I did not like the fact that you can't positively clamp on it like you can with a solid bushing and the thought of losing the carb was too much. Hope this helps.

No I haven't yet we are into winter but a chinook is here so i may be able to start on the idle jetting. Heres a couple of updated pics with the clear floatbowl that includes quick access for the main jet.

Update;
The chinook came so I am now jetting the idle which is about all i can do the streets are full of snow, the dellorto makes that bike idle unbelievably smooth and consistent. Fired rt up on choke first try.

UPDATE

Well it's nice weather and the roads are now resonably dry. Got the pilot jet set now. Idles nice and low and the consistency is sweet, it will idle for 15 min easily-no problem. It is making a big difference in the midrange and top end for sure. The bottom end is doin well but just got the main jet pretty close haven't fiddled with my needle adjustment or a needle change, just want to get it somewhat dialed in and prevent a burn down. I did notice one thing though- I'm somewhat sure it is the efficiency between the 2 carbs but the main jet size is 0.001''-0.002'' smaller than I was running on the stock china carb which was taper bored by myself. One more afternoon of tuning and I will have a complete picture of how much difference it is making. As a side note I'm running a 36t sprocket and my bottom end is still pretty good..wee.

Update 2
She is running nice now the sbp pipe and change of needles got it to where it will pull away at about 9 mph clutch completely engaged with a very slight stutter until 13 mph then pull from there up to redline smoothly. One or two more adjustments on the needle clip and she is tuned in. I am running 0.002'' smaller on the main and it could still use one more size down on the main for perfect top end but it will leave a safe margin of error. I am running a 0.024'' main and a w9 needle in case anyone is interested.

I just found my Delorto 15.15 flat slide in my box of spare parts from a previous build....Just got it fitted on the intake good and just have to hook up the fuel line a cable......See how it works....
