zip or cable tie spokes

I read on a different post that someone had put zip ties around the spokes on the rim to support them better. Has anyone else tried this and noticed the advantage of it?

google "soldering spokes by jobst brandt."

jobst is a legendary bicycle guru who's written many in depth articles on bikes.

in a nutshell, he says there's no advantage to it at all.

what you're referring to is an older trick called tying & soldering your spokes , the moto crossers used to do this
i hear it makes for a very stout wheel , but you'd have to de- solder them every time you needed to true the wheel
i have a wheel set whith this treatment & ive never had any worries

The idea started waaay back when hare scrambles were very popular.
It is thought to strengthen a wheel but if you think of how the spokes support and distribute the strains and stresses, there really is no benefit there.
The benefit you do get though is if you do break a spoke it will not flail about randomly and get caught up in the rear of the bike which can do serious damage in a nanosecond.

Zip ties are used to limit damage from a broken spoke. If one breaks, the zipties hold it in place to keep it from getting bent or hung up and damaging other stuff.
Wire tying and soldering is used for more strength but it seems like an awful lot of work for very little gain to me.
