My LBS was recently working on a hand-carved teak bicycle from Bali that was cool looking. It was going to a local charity auction. It looked rideable, but was more of a show piece.
That certainly is a fine work of art, from the utility rack it looks like he might ride it too!
Those bamboo frame bicycles are definitely worth checking out, the joinwork is incredible, and bamboo is stronger than steel per weight. They even make mountain bikes out of it, a testament to its strength.
I bet a bamboo bike would work nicely with a HT, since the wood would absorb some of the vibration that makes your junk get numb on long rides.
