Any thoughts on a bike like this as a starting point?

I just bought a cruiser off craigs list, but with just a crappy coaster brake I am worried about braking and the cost to add it on...

Spooky Tooth advertises a springer front fork assembly with disc brake wheel on their web site - sadly they are out of business. I like the cruiser style as I want to somewhat emulate the board tracker style, but I also want to be safe at speed...
 
I have just completed my first build, so my experience is limited, but recent. The pictures of the bike you posted look like you will have clearance problems with the top of the engine. You need more space "inside" the frame.
