Where to get quality exhaust gaskets?

Unless you have lapped the exhaust flange and assured it is flat the metal gaskets won't seal as well as a fiber type. Every exhaust pipe flange I've seen is warped from the welding process and needs to be ground flat to assure a good seal against the cylinder.

Gasket material suitable for exhaust can be purchased at any auto parts store. 1/8" is the thinnest material you should use. 3/16" is even better. Be sure to torque the fasteners and re-check them after a couple of heat/cool cycles.

You'll also want to support the pipe and muffler with a bracket to the frame to guard against putting excessive stress on the pipe's fasteners.

I agree with Tom. You can buy a 12" x 12" sheet for pretty cheap ($7-$8?) and make about 25 gaskets from it. I bought one two years ago and just now I am almost out and I make a lot of gaskets from a lot of tinkering and other nonsense on my bike.
