Jefferson County sheriff's guys have all been cool to me too. They patrol our neighborhood quite often and I've stopped and talked to them. They never bring up legalities but ask about the bike, "how much, how fast, how many miles to the gallon, all the normal questions.

It's too bad there are always those who adopt that "I'm the Authority" attitude when they pin on the badge. Funny but it seems small, greedy little municipalities attract that kind of people for their law enforcement needs. Greenwood Village is another example. They used to patrol the parking lots of commercial office buildings ticketing cars with expired emmision stickers. Nice way to generate revenue. I've never ridden one of my bikes there but I can only imagine how they would respond.

A Motor Assisted Bicycle. A bicycle with motor Assist a motor less than 50cc . Defined Categories are Motor cycle, Scooter, Moped or Motorized Peddler, and Then Bicycle or Bicycle with motor assist. I have at least one of every one of these listed. If you have a scooter or moped, less than 50cc and not a bicycle, they must be registered as a low powered vehicle. A moped or Scooter requires the driver to be at least 16 with a valid drivers license, moped or scooter must be insured, and you must have the low powered registration sticker good for 3 years placed on the bike in clear view. This sticker cost $5.84 for 3 years. To get this sticker, you must submit your VIN number and proof of Valid insurance. A bicycle has no Vin number Axiomatic. A bicycle does not require any license yet. There was a CRS passed a few years ago for motorized bikes and if you read the CRS you will see it was Aimed at the Gopeds, Razors, and pocket bikes that were screaming up and down the streets and sidewalks. It was never targeting bicycles or bicycles with motor assist. But.. If you ever wind up in court over your bicycle with motor assist, make sure you get a lawyer and win, because once you win, it will become case law. If you lose, that will become the case law.. You want to win. Also.. Always be a good Steward when riding. Hopefully everyone knows what that means.. Enjoy the ride.

Black Hawk currently has a ban on bicycles. I believe it is a $75 fine. They appear to be a casino town and do not want bicycles in the way of there making money. There is an apeal into the state supreme court in progress at this time.

Yep, anything such as a hoard of pedal cyclists occupying every inch of the way, would greatly slow the influx of retired folks itching to blow their social security paycheck at the slots.

ANY municipality can make these things illegal...Garland Tx & Frisco does this. The hierchy of law goes federal then state then local local trumps state & federal. So unfortunately yes any town can outlaw them.

I was questioning the contradiction in the wheat ridge wording.

As far as garland and frisco, they don't have ordnances banning gas powered motor bicycles that I'm aware of. I believe what you're referring to deals with certain types of scooters and gopeds.

These also say automatic transmissions.. Most of us aren't automatic. I read somewhere a while ago for colorado that we're fine as long as we are 50cc or under and have a manual clutch. I wish I saved the link.

I was getting along just fine when I was riding around Boulder. Plenty of cops saw me, never pulled me over. When CU was doing its big lock down for 4/20 one asked about it but was just curious. Couldn't tell if he approved or not but he was also stressed out by the college kids driving by that weren't exactly polite.
