What's need to build a 4 stroke motorized bicycle

I've been thinking about this long and hard and I've decided to build a 4 stroke mb. All I know is that I'll get a HF engine, but after that I havent a clue as to what to buy and where and what parts are needed for my build. I really dont want to buy the cheapest parts and have it break on me in a month. I'd rather spend a bit more and buy the better part. A slight modification is possible, i.e. pull the governor, and high flow air filter are all must and ?? It most likely will go on a 26" beach cruiser frame.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated as I'll keep all my options open.

What are you planning on doing with the bike?
What size motor?
Racing it or riding it on the street?

Thank you aleman for the feedback.

I was thinking of the smaller hf 3 hp because of the weight - size issue and maybe put it in my 26" schwinn beach cruiser frame with 24" wheels, (I dont know if that'll be a good idea). I do plan on racing it and an occasional ride in the streets.

What you're doing should work, provided you can find the HF 2.5 lol..I think they are out of production now. The longish engine will sit kinda high up in a Schwinn cantilever frame, might even clear the pedals if you have short enough arms!

I was building up something like that to take to Willow, but the mount needs a bunch of work still. I'm using a GreenLine 7-speed with a HF 2.5 and AGK jackshaft. The engine with jackshaft and optional cover is a shade under 12" wide, but not very tall.

Hey Mr Dutchman,

I am glade to see you going in this direction, you will enjoy this project. Do some research on the bikes AGK was running at willow, also check out his site for what you may need. If you want I can show you a few things that I am working on now that might help. Good luck with your build.

Thanks aleman and I didnt realize that they stopped making the hf 3 hp. I thought they were making them as I looked on Harbor Freights web site and saw them on back order Predator 99 cc OHV Horizontal Shaft Gas Engine I dont even know if this will fit in the frame. I do realize that they wont ship to Ca but I know people that live out of Ca that would help. Thanks for the width specs too as that was also a concern of mine.

Hi CCC hows it going? Looking at your thumper and hearing it on the track inspired me to build a 4 stroke. I've been checking out agk website on my breaks from work and when ever I get a chance to figure out what the heck I need to do to make this happen. I appreciate your offer for showing me some things and most likely will take you up on it.
