what is 4 cycling?

I hear you guys talking about your engines 4 cycling. What do you mean by this and how can you tell it is doing it?

I understand the difference of how a 2 cycle and 4 cycle engine works but don't know how a 2 stroke 4 cycles.

I'm no expert here but in 2 cycle model engines "4 cycling" is a rich mixture setting where the air/fuel mixture doesn't ignite every stroke. It's actually beneficial to longevity and you should notice under load like an incline the engine will break into a full 2 cycle for extra power. Without a mixture setting screw the HT engines require a carb dismantling to adjust the metering rod height to 'lean' or 'richen' the mixture.

I'll also add; the way I can tell when I get the mixture just right is when it runs nice & crisp & has a very light 4 cycle at certain spots on the throttle! This way I know the mixture is right, but still a little to the richer side.)
