What does the G in 4G stand for?

Simple question, but couldn't find it by searching: What does the G in 4G stand for? Does it just indicate that it's the 4th generation of their transmission? I'm not asking about the mechanics of it, just the naming.
 
My guess is that it stands for 4th generation since there was a Stage 1.5, Stage II and Stage III kits prior to the 4G kit. Stage I was probably a prototype.

Gas...? When i took smog inspector class they called it G1 class.. "G" in G1 stands for gas engine.. ...If you dont pass smog they send you to a state approved G2 station which services Gas engines.. So Gas would be my guess... .xx.
