Welding onto the Sturmey archer drum brake lever (to forks)

Not sure what kind of metal it is made of and Im buying a drum brake from a forum member however the brake lever has been modified to fit his fork and will need that piece extended back to original form. You cant buy that piece separate as they require you to purchase the whole side which is pricey so I figured maybe a weld would work.

I wouldn't suggest welding the arm, best bet would be to weld a stud to the fork for the arm to fit onto.

Is it steel or aluminum? Try sticking a magnet to it. If the magnet doesn't stick then it is a good bet that it is either aluminum or a stainless steel alloy.

If it's aluminum it can be welded but whoever does it MUST know what he's doing. If stainless or mild steel the task becomes easier but still needs to be done by a competent welder. Brakes are not something to be taken lightly. Sounds like a job for a professional welder. Almost every part/sub-component made by Sturmey Archer can be bought through SJScycles.co.uk . I would go that route first before potentially damaging a good hub.
