I would like to pose a question.
A thinner head gasket with a modified or removed base gasket improves power.

How about a double base gasket and seal the cylinder head with permatex only.

As long as the piston doesn't hit the head.

also another good link Performance tuning by Graham Bell

You can play with port timing a little by juggling head and base gaskets.

I don't know that permatex would seal the head though.

Match up the port/gasket/exhaust.
Dial in the carb as best as you can.
I believe you can lose one of the two base gaskets if your bicycle motor came with two like mine did.
Make sure the head stays torqued properly.
After that, it's time for some porting and a few other two stroke tuners tricks.

Mix well and enjoy responsibly.
