Tight Clutch

I recently ordered a mototrized bike kit from walmart.com and when i received it, the clutch was really tight. Like to the point where the little brass cable stopper will just let the cable through it when the lever is pulled in. The clutch arm isnt stuck, just very stiff. I have read the threads on how the clutch plates are stuck to the actual engine, and tried to use some of that advice, but to no avail. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Wyatt, if you added the spring between the arm and the cable standoff that can make it harder to pull the clutch in. Some of the levers are not designed to give enough leverage, I have one lever that is shorter than my others and it takes more pressure to pull.

So you’re saying the cable is slipping in the lock collar? Try greasing the clutch arm, bucking bar and ball, they sometimes have no grease when delivered. Also put a small amount of grease on the teeth of the gears on the right side as well.

This is the area that needs grease.

You can back off the flower nut on the clutch plate to take some tension off of the big internal spring, not too much or the clutch will slip.

is the bar moving? yes, does it have a firm spring like feel? yes, use flower nut to adjust.
if you answered no to the first question, is the handle really tight and hard to pull? yes, then you need to reduce the preload on the clutch spring.
