Sprocket Adapter Questions....

Greetings everyone,

I got my moped running well now, and I have a few questions before I build my second one. Obviously the sprocket adapter is a better solution than the rubber sandwich kit that comes with the engine. That said:

1. I haven't seen much complaints about the rubber sandwich solution (aside from alignment and wobble). Is it safe to go with this or should I just toss it and go with a sprocket adapter.

2. I've seen several sprocket adapters for sale (http://www.piratecycles1.com/picycbspad.html and http://mmbikeparts.com/sprocket_adapter.htm). They all call for specific hub diameter measurements (e.g Hubs that measure between 1.520"-1.528"). What specifically (see diagram) are we supposed to measure? The first line or the second? I'd really appreciate some help here. Thanks in advance.

The hub diameter is measured on the hub between the spoke flanges. The adapter clamps to the hub between the left and right spokes.

Look at the picture of the Sportsman Flyer adapter on the side of this page and you'll see where it clamps to the hub.

Could this kit be compatible if I was using a pocket bike engine since the sprockect is so small up front?not sure if im Making sense..ill try to explain well im using a pocket bike engine and wanted to set up the rear hub with a sprockect and adaptor and use a chain but since the pocket bike sprockect is so small would the chain even fit and work properly???and help would be great newbie here sorry

Some photos of what you have would help. Also a little more information. What bike? Wheel size? Engine size? Is the engine sprocket attached directly to the crankshaft or is there a gear reduction? What size chain did the "pocketbike" use?

The gearbox on pocket bikes are also used on motorized bikes.

Sounds like you have the clutch directly on the engine though without
a gearbox and the sprocket is probably for 8 mm chain.

how many teeth on the sprocket?

The sprocket adapters come with sprockets for 1/2" pitch chain like 415,
410 or wide chain # 41

You could get a 8 mm rear sprocket but would have to accurately custom
drill the 3 holes to mount to the sprocket adapter.

Pocket bikes use very small wheels too so if you are mounting the engine
in a bicycle you will have to calculate your gearing to work with much
larger wheels like 26"

Ok this pretty much what I have I got a 50cc pocket pockets engine trying to fit it onto an occ stinray chopper,wheel size are stock 24in,and the engine sprockect that is mounted is 6 gear I believe,I seen someone kinda do it I have a link which I'll post in a bit.i believe the user went a different way with his set up making the engine sprockect custom I don't I wanna use what's there and I believe the motorbicycle has the idea im going for just want to know if the sprockect adapter is compatible...i believe I would need to get a sprockect made for a pocket bike correct??and if so what tooth ratio solhould I get and chain I'll post the link up right now
