Skyhawk carburetor

I was wondering if I can run my skyhawk carburetor without the red plastic piece?

Also is there some type of extension that attaches from the engine to the carburetor? So the carburetor comes out the side.

I found the thread below by doing a search, if you want go to the top of this page and type in offset carb or custom intake. You may find something that will help. The red piece is the breather cover, I wouldn't run mine without a filter of some type.
