RETIREMENT

Congratulations! You will feal a little alone at first but soon find others, to take the place. I worked at a paper mill 600 employies, so lots of opinons tp lose. I have been retired 25 years now and don't miss much of it anymore, except a lot of funerals in the later years. .........Curt

Sadly, I had to retire at 48 due to a congenital birth defect with my heart. It was a big adjustment when my weekly salary became my monthly salary. Life style changes were necessary. However I can honestly say I'm happier with less stressers in my life than I ever was working even though I had nicer things then.

Congratulations on being unemployed Greg, may it suit you well.

I made it to 70, when Covid and my wife having Multiple Myeloma forced me out of work to keep Mona safe. Had not my wife suffering cancer and undergoing chemo, I likely would still putting in 40.
I lost all ambition after I could not do real work.
The up side is that my reading has increased. Latest hard read was a bio of Xi Jinping, 370 pages of text and 135 pages of reference.

Being retired hasn't been bad so far, I've been catching up on a few things that I've got behind on, tree trimming and yard work. It's funny when you are working full time you over look a lot of things, now I pay more attention because I don't have to worry about work. My replacement hasn't called me but once so he is handling things.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed my job, I've always gravitated towards a challenge so the school system job gave me something to keep me on the move, I started planning retirement at the end of 2024, I gave my notice at work in January and we started looking for my replacement, then when my brother passed away in March my decision was confirmed. I cannot and will not just sit down and quit, one of the things I tell my wife when she asks me why I ge up so early is" I'm burning daylight", I can't sit down when there's things to do.

My mother worked as a storage facility manager for 30 years. She lived at the facility. She bought a house and retired. For 2 years she still got up at 5:00 am. Then one day she asked herself why am I getting up this early? After that she was normally up between 8~9:00 am.

Working as much overtime as I did throughout my working days 6 to 6 was not uncommon. I was not ready to stop.
There is a posting for a Tool and Die Maker I keep passing by. Tempted to enquire. But there was a arshole foreman. Still it would be fun to see what they would offer.

I have been retired for two months now and can’t believe how much I needed to do here at home, like I posted earlier once you don’t have a job you see a lot of things you have overlooked. I see now why my father in-law once told me “ it’s a good thing I’m retired because I don’t have time to have a job”. I do all of my own lawn care, landscaping, tree trimming along with all home maintenance, I have 2-1/2 acres to keep up and enjoy doing it.

So true, all the years I have benn retired, seems no end, one of the resons I sold my lake place, was just never no end. I have a good size corner lot here in town, way more then enough,LOL. I just bought a new 30" rear engine rider to use, old one was on it's thired motor.........Curt

Curt I still have a 28” snapper high vac rear engine rider, my wife likes to use it, I ride our 48” John Deere, it’s much faster so I can get through a lot faster. My younger brother called my Snapper a “Forest Gump “ mower.

after trial and ear I figured out what a cause of enge failer I have a bank and alwys mowe it in one direction except twice. The engine sets in cros ways insted of most rider have the engine facing noth and south, both times the piston was down hill so the engine went dry of oil. Simplisaty My son that helps me a lot has another motor, so wil put that in and give it to him for his flat lawn. Always mow wth the piston up............Curt

I’ve been retired for a couple months shy of two years now. I tell my friends I should go back to my old job, because when I was working for a living I always had free time after hrs to get things done and enjoy life. Now it feels like I’m forever working on something for my wife, friends, neighbors or relatives.
