So, in the case something happens to a rim on a mountain bike. How do most people replace it? With a single speed bike. Simple! But. Ive never messed with mountain bikes. But. Ive got a few now. They needing a rear rim replaced. The gears is why I asking. I habe no clue what Ill.do when the time comes tia

Exactly what are you wanting to know about the gears? How to shift them perhaps? If so what kind of drive system does the bike have? 3x7, 3x8, 2x9 etc

There are times that your bike derailleur is damaged, which prevents the bike gears from shifting. The way to fix bike gears that won’t shift: You should locate your bike derailleurs accurately. Bike derailleurs are responsible for shifting the bike gear and keeping the bike chain in place. To determine the shifting problem, you can determine whether your bike won’t shift to the highest gear front. Identify the cables that lead to the derailleurs and look for the adjusters. Rotate the cable adjuster anticlockwise if you observe that shifting is difficult while lowering the gear, keep the adjuster tight. Ensure that the derailleur shifts successfully in every turn of the gear wheel.

When I needed a new rear rim on my mountain bike I just replaced the wheel with another 7 speed wheel. I guess I'm lucky to have collected bike parts over the years.
Yes I'll Dumpster Dive to salvage a Bike and strip it for parts
That's where I got my mountain Bike - out of the trash- and with the parts off some other dumpster treasures I made a complete bike. Sure it's made from 5 different bikes but I've been riding that bike now for 15 years. It's my Beach Bike kinda like a 21 speed Mt. cruiser
