RE: 97cc Lifan and AGK Torque converter.

So I've been tinking on this Lifan / Doodlebug 97cc motor for the rebuilding of my Taylar BTR; Going from 2 to 4 stroke. Ive been looking at the AGK jackshaft and decided that was really my only choice; but started wondering about the GTC Torque converter they sell. http://www.affordablegokarts.com/mm...Code=A&Product_Code=GTC100*&Category_Code=PCJ SO... 1: Would the 97cc flat head be enough motor for the TQ converter? 2: AGK offers a "belt guard" option as opposed to the completly out of place ( on my application ) carbon coverup they sell. Anybody seen or better yet have pitcures of this creature? ( searched; no luck )

Thanks Jonny. Thats the same thing as on AGK's site; and I too have my doubts bout having enough power to drive it. I'm quite sure the Lifan doesnt have nearly the power as a HF 99cc as the compression is way lower and its a side valve flathead. Just looking at options for my BTR.

the agk jack shaft is nice because if you order 1-2 other gears for it you can tune it to how you ride to get the best start and top speed

Velo,

the torque converter isn't going to work for the 97cc Lifan or 99cc Predator. There is a YouTube video of someone doing the conversion of a 99cc Predator, but it didn't work right. I think he had a top speed of 28 mph. In his comments, he decided to go with a jackshaft setup.

For covers, look at the Promod jackshaft kit at HotRodMiniBike.com:

Good Luck,

Thanks Blue. I had my suspicions bout the TQ converter. I just email'd AGK for sugestions. The plastic covers just wont get it for this particular build BTR. 1915 stylie...

Chris is right on with this post. I have a GC160 and it works but is limited to about 45mph which is fine with me. Now on the other hand my son runs a jack shaft setup and it has its issues too, unless you have a motor that can pull some rpm's you will be facing some issues with top speed and low end torque.

The 99cc clone would work good with the govenor removed, it's proven by AGK.

Our jack shaft setup is: 12-21-12-50 the bike will do 40 plus but the valves start to float on this motor (GC160).

I would go with the chain guard from ebay, that is the type I make and run. No issues yet.

CCC. Thanks for the input. The Lifan Im using is rated at 2.5 hp. Bout the same as the HS 49cc but almost twice the displacement. Im hoping for higher torque values and it seem they are there as MotoMags had posted previously. The RPM however, will not be there.
