i am posting this as a warning.

the short story,

i was in the process of a build, 0-hr new motor

cleaned up and professionally tuned bike.

i was going to spend the day at a buddy's

house tinkering around with my new project.

anyway i loaded it up on my bike rack
BEFORE


with no problems.

got on to I-5 going north

to seattle. all was good "UNTIL"

we heard a loud snap.

we turned around to see my

project bouncing down the freeway

at 65mph behind me.

luckily no vehicles were hit.

we stopped and recovered the bike.

we then discovered the bolts snapped

in the carrier.

SOOOO! X@%#*:-||

back to square ONE!

NEVER EVER TRUST BIKE CARRIERS!!!!

Wow ,sorry for the bad luck,,,, on the lighter side and hopefully bring a smile

well maybe some alum weld sticks for the sproket cover ,and I think a new plug would be best,then theres the cooling fins,,,there are so many ,heck a few less will make the motor weigh less and allow better air flow,
 
I use receiver hitch bike racks. The style that uses several straps comes loose quite easily. You can even make your own.

Sorry for the "mishap". My first bike looked like that after a month of riding!! On a good note, there is ALWAYS a positive, You have some seriously strong engine mounts!!
I can't speculate if it's repairable without my hands on it, maybe a good parts motor, Thank you for the experience! Just like leaving your wallet on the dash and watching it slide out the window... OUCH!
 
Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
Maybe the additional weight of the motor on the bike might have been too much for the carrier to handle?
Maybe some heavier duty bolts installed on the carrier will allow it to handle the extra loads involved?

but good news. my insurance paid for the damages.
LOL, and that's why i haven't been on the site for a while.
i've been shopping and building. the kicker is my insurance
gave me the retail price of a pre built whizzer, SO-laff-i'll post a pic of
the one i'm finished,

well almost i got it all put together and riding it BUT...
SBP are out of there HD shift kit's. when that's in i'll be done.
with the extra i'm ordering a FireBikes boardtracker frame/tank, and a S6 - S 9.4 hp
Franco Morini motor. that will keep me from
getting cabin fever this winter.

OH MY ME... I can't believe your bike didn't hit any other cars you are fortunate and unlucky at the same time, then your insurance pays for it! Awesome! You've had a rollercoaster of emotions getting this built lol. Looks great can't wait to get my engine this week
 
Glad your bike didn't hit any other cars and you retrieved it before an 18 wheeler hit it. I have had bike racks fail me in many ways. Always add more straps than you need on a bike rack.
 
I like to add a braided polly rope into the trunk and back out at the hindge location and after the bike is on the rack ,I will then re-secure it to the trunk tieing off with both ends of the rope
