Say, how would a person replace or repair a piston ring retaining pin that came out, and/or upgrade a new piston with improved ring pins? Thank you.

If you try and fail it will probably cost you a new cylinder and a new piston and rings. Better to just spend a couple of bucks on a new piston and ring set.
If you have to replace a pin you will need it to be larger than the one that fell out and it will require you to shape the part that sticks out to fit the end of the rings.
