Newbie questions. wire/mpg

First question, how do shorten the sparkplug wire? I've read that the boot twists off and just cut the wire. But when I tried I messed it up and the boot came apart, had to order new cdi.

Second, how many miles per gallon should I really expect from my china girl. Weight and stuff affect millage, I know but after 2 gallons (just breaking her in) I'm nowhere near 100mpg. More like 50mpg.

twist off the spark plug end.its threaded on.
the wire also threads into the cdi,but you need to use care,some people will use a pick and clean the wire out of the cdi and then thread the new one onto the threaded contact.

Unscrew the sparkplug wire from the cdi (theres a little screw post in the cdi box), and as far as mileage, These engines keep getting better for at least 5-600 miles or more until fully broken in (unless they blow-up)so don't despair. Once it's broken in good, you can tune the carb needle for best mileage too.
