I'll have to admit I am wrong when it comes to coaster brake only riding. I have been riding with coaster brakes for 45 years, and I have never had a mishap due to not enough brakes.
However, when adding an engine, it's a good idea to have good working front and rear brakes and know how to ride a bicycle.
Still, all my builds but one have had only coaster brakes, and It's not the bikes that are going to kill me.

I've gone done from over 9,000 ft to 1100 ft in less then 20 miles on just a coaster brake. No problems as long as you dont ride it too hard and get the brake hot. On the way down I was hitting over 40mph and had no problems just using the coaster brake.
But.... it is not a bad ideal to add a front brake.
