New Bike Repaint

So I went to the bike store the other day to purchase a kickstand for my MB. Well as I was browsing the guy came up to me and we started talking, I mentioned I had a MB and i needed more support for my bike on a kickstand. He showed me a few and then showed me this one sweet orange cruiser with huge handle bars, banana seat and sweeeet rims. well I ended up walking out with that bike and well a trip to the hardware store and some paint and chrome cleaner hehe. Here she is:

Don't use spray paint to paint the frame, it will chip off at the slightest touch!
I've tried it & failed! :(

I'm now having my bikes powder coated! (^)

i see.... i have this red cruiser bike im trying to convert to lowrider and i repainted it black using sprat paint.... hmmm ill have to find out about this new thing you call "power Coat" nonono "power goat" yesyesyes.. wait you say no??ohh... Powder Coat!! (lol not funny)

On anything that is painted, a powder coat finish lasts longer and IMO, it just looks nicer, its more uniform than spray paint. But, if a cans all you got, its better than nothing.

Oddly enough, I'd only powder coat a show bike. Although it's true that it's a better coating and stronger, if you actually ride a LOT - yer paint is gonna get trashed no matter what it is or how it's applied.

If you have easy & cheap access to powder coating - sweet, but if ya want a bike lookin' beautiful all the time you've two choices... never use it or repaint every spring (or as a winter proj if ya stop riding). With that in mind I rattlecan 'cause it's easy 'nuff & cheap to do at home.

I've a powder coated bike and a rattle can job - TBH as much as I abus... *cough* ride 'em - the paint is thrashed 'bout the same :p



BTW, wax does help slow the damage - it's a protective coat that does more than make it shiny (reduces UV and helps deflect scratches & dirt buildup), BUT it makes it a lil more of a pain to repaint as ya need to decontaminate... *shrug* yer call ;)

Ok, so I guess I really just don't get it. I don't intend to throw my machine down on crushed stone or anything but I am actually looking forward to some bips, chips and scratches from use. To me they tell stories and give a machine hard earned character. Perfection is perfectly boring. Give it a paint job, relax, and have fun! If your obsessed with a paint finish go with baked enamel and park it next to your refrigerator and stove.
 
set time is the key to strength in paint my I have a rattle can paint job on a car that is still driving around, 8 years and it's a suburban always in the mud and "paint dangers" there are hardly any marks on it and the only scratches would've happened regardless of the paint.
